As to Western victims of ISIS, I am sorry for Sotloff, Foley and their families-- but Syria is a dangerous place and this is the risk. We cannot ake on ourselves the task of "making awful places safe for journalists".

Deep where did some of these comments of yours come from based on my post you quoted? I never said anything about any one being mind controlled, oh, excuse me, never have a hateful idea. I never said anything about boots on the ground.
I do agree that foreign nationals who are in a hostile country are there on their own and should not expect their country to come get them. I mean what is more explicit than this is a war zone?

I'm speaking rhetorically . . . If I were suggesting that you said something, I'd have quoted you.

The questions I put are the ones that occur to me when Obama's critics fault him for "inaction".

I don't know how to destroy IS, and neither does the government. Think about it: We've had a decade long mission to destroy al Qaeda, and we've bashed them pretty good, and ISIS is the result.

I have no qualms about using force against bad guys, its just that I don't think that it will make them go away. I'm satisfied with "we don't go there, they don't come here". They don't have aircraft carriers . . .

I think it is appropriate to target some narrowly focused action. From a British perspective, we have a crop of traitors and scum who have gone to Syria in order to wage war against the allies of the country of their birth. If they come home, these enemies will be a grave threat to British public safety. There is a lot to be said for killing them in Syria or Iraq, the way they can't come home. It would send a strong message both to the Jihadists in the field and to their supporters in the UK, that what goes around comes around.

Here in the U.S. in a televised news address, President Obama had this to say about ISIS:

President Barack Obama vowed Friday to “degrade and ultimately destroy” the militants of ISIS — an organization that he said was too dangerous to be simply contained.

He said that NATO countries agreed on the need for immediate action against the militants, who have rampaged across Syria and Iraq and have vowed to establish a caliphate across the Middle East. He also said that Arab states, including those with a Sunni majority, must help as well.

The president spoke from Wales at the conclusion of a NATO summit that was called to deal with Russian aggression in Ukraine but that was somewhat overshadowed by the ISIS threat.

“You can’t contain an organization that is running roughshod through that much territory, causing that much havoc, displacing that many people, killing that many innocents, enslaving that many women,” he said. “The goal has to be to dismantle them.”

The only way to control a country or specific area is to move your own population there and eventually force the original inhabitants out. Much like what China is doing to its Muslim areas and Tibet.

The US does not have the political will to do that anymore and yes I am referencing the theft of most of the US from the native American tribes.

So no long term solution and more band aid bombing/drone attacks. Do you see a future where in twenty-thirty years these radical Muslims will not still be attacking the US?

Look at what the similarly ideologically inclined Taliban did to Afghanistan.
As hard line Islamists is there any doubt that half the population (females) will revert to being treated as second class citizens or worse and that Western ideas will be shunned.
Maybe not the Stone Age but pretty feudal for sure.
