@loosegoose: I can remember Intellivision; am I really getting that old?!

@Everyone: Here are some images of various maps I have "under construction" on RPG Maker MV; there is a Starter Dungeon that looks Mesoamerican, two citadels for giants, and two more levels that are likely going to be populated with orcs... )

At the risk of dating myself, I started playing D&D in 1976 at the age of 12...the game was originally published in 1974. My cousin was in a hobby store and came across it. We first started with the set that had the 3 brown covered rules books. Then for some reason we started using the boxed set that had, IIRC, one rule book and you could only advance 3 levels. It was like a starter/beginner set. Then we went back to using the 3 rule book set when we realized it wasn't much fun to only play a character to 3 levels and have to start over. I can remember using the old First Fantasy Campaign/BlackMoor map. I still have them around here somewhere. So I date that far back into D&D, almost to the very beginning of it. We played other RPGs. Villains & Vigilantes, Bunnies & Burrows, Runequest, Marvel Superheroes, many more I can't even remember off hand. We also played actual games like StarForce...I think that was the first boardgame we played...War of the Rings, Star Fleet Command, Melee, Car Wars.

I'm not sure if we were dweebs or not. The group I played with had football players, basketball players, all state musicians, honor roll students, you name it. I do remember being told years later by someone that the other kids thought we were all Satan worshipers. I guess that's the result of growing up with backwards Southern Baptists. As much as anything it was something to do. In the days before the internet and 300 channels on cable tv, there wasn't much else to do in a small town. The other kids went out and got into trouble, we stayed home and played RPGs.

@cginok: I was born in 1976, so I was too young to get into the original '70s rulebooks. My experience with D&D dates to 1985, when I was about 8 years old; we bought my dad (who is a huge Hobbit/LotR fan and Led Zeppelin listener!) the '80s red boxed set of 1st edition D&D. He didn't really get into it as much as we thought he might, so I got into it instead by 1986, when I was finally going on 10 years old, the lowest age the box recommended. At that time, we had an old-school Apple IIC computer that also played Might & Magic 1. I eventually bought all of the '80s boxed sets for D&D and continued to play Might & Magic games, and tinkered a little with Adventure Construction Set as well.

I stopped playing (A)D&D with 2nd edition in about 1994; I continued to play a few games of BattleTech. My favorite video games of the early '90s were Final Fantasy, Pirates! Gold, Civilization, and SimCity/SimCity 2000. I sold off most of my games in 2002-04 at college, but I still think that the '80s and '90s were responsible for some great franchises. Can you believe they're on Civilization 6, and whatever double-digits of Final Fantasy?

@Everyone: I have finished the "orc levels", and here are two zoomed-out maps plus two actual-size maps...

It's supposed to be an Orcish Dungeon above some Orcish Caverns.

Default No one ever had big enough nads to call me a dweeb. ;)

I mainly play single player games now such as MineCraft but played D&D in the late 70`s and throughout the 80`s. I`ve never been a LARPer unless you count the annual Highland games, but I admire the work that hardcore cosplayers and LARPers put into their passtime.

@Everyone: Thanks for your ongoing support of this thread, not intended to make anyone think that they are a dweeb. I have just finished (as far as I want to right now) the Ogrish Dungeon and the Troglodyte Caverns underneath:

[Now I think I'm going to take a break, because the Caverns in particular were tough to make, and they still have no rock formations nor navigational landmarks.]

Two months later, I am still tinkering with RPG Maker MV. I made two very large mazes (200-250 tiles high and wide!) and they are still only about half-complete; I haven't scripted characters or objectives yet, merely corridors/rooms/layout. These are the Crystalline Labyrinth in blue, and the dusty-looking Accursed Pyramid:

@Everyone: Thank you for responding to this thread. I am certainly not a devil worshipper, but maybe 10% dweeb and 90% freethinker.

In the future, I plan to finish three RPG Maker MV maps that are named for heavy metal songs: Valley Of The Dolls (Fates Warning), Devils' Island (Megadeth), and Maze Of Torment (Morbid Angel)...

I played D&D all thru high school, one of the campaigns was run by a woman who was a friend of Gary Gygax and help test the game. We met every Sunday for about 3 years and her business just got too busy so she had to quit running the game.

I am also into online games, played Warcraft for a bit, but have played Everquest since it came out and still do.

As for the "Dweeb" monicker, I have been a steel worker and bouncer in a strip bar, so not many people called me that....
