The first album I ever bought had to be Signals, by Rush. It was their latest album at the time and the first of many trips to the record stores, back when they had such things.

Further to my earlier answer about The Police, the very first single I had was given to me by my sister-and yes I confess it was Cliff Richard's Wired for Sound but probably more streetcred than the one my mother bought me when I was ill-oh the shame! it was...Postman Pat!!! and yes I still have them both-shoot me now!

I'm not sure about the first single, but the first LP I bought with my own money was the just-released Black Sabbath - Master of Reality when I was 12.

1st 45 Single: "I'll Meet You Halfway" by The Partridge Family (!);
1st 33 1/3 LP: "Beatles '65" , bought in about 1975, which wasn't too cool at that time. I definitely didn't tell my friends. |

First vinyl I actually went into a shop and bought on my own as a kid - Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath. I was 12, it was birthday money and I was a little bit intimidated by the whole affair as I'd never been in a proper record shop before.
Still got it on CD but sold all my vinyl many years ago, much to my regret. Cheers, Dumbassgo.

My first 45 was Paul McCartney & Wings' "Band on the Run/Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" and my first LP was Jethro Tull's "Songs From the Wood."

The first record I had was bought for me by my parents - I was about 5 years old and the title of the song was "Me and you and a dog named Boo", apparantly I loved the song! No idea who actually sang it.
First record I actually bought was A New World Record by ELO, I've still got it and still love the album. |

The first record I ever bought for myself was Elvis Presleys 'Flaming Star', though I had bought records for other members of the family as presents before that.
Probably the first ever record that I bought was a Seekers EP for my father when I was very small.
