Keeping file links alive
We know that if free users' files are "inactive/not accessed" for a time, the files are deleted, and links to them are dead
We also know that we can try to keep links alive by downloading our own files. Makes sense, right? - downloading is faster than re-uploading My questions are: does anyone know if this actually works, or do hosters check your IP and exclude you as an "access"? Second, if it does work, do you have to download the whole file for it to count as an "access", or can you start the download, break off, and still keep the link alive? |

Usually downloading your own files will help keep them alive in my experience. Most hosts do not keep track of who is downloading a file.
At one time, you could download a partial from RS to keep a file alive, I even had an app that did that. However, they changed it so that the download had to be complete at one point to make it count so the app was useless then. Whether they abandoned that again is anyone's guess but I doubt it. I think that most hosts do only count complete downloads, not partials these days.

Depositfiles is up front about it ...deletion date set which is shown...you download...
it jumps ahead to new date Mind you thats a small account of a 100 files with an average file size well under 100mb maximum individual file 300mb Anyone posting 1 click large files would possibly face a different situation because 1 download occasionally to keep something alive is dead weight sitting on their servers earning them no AD revenue. Theres anecdotal comments about that some hosts are removing files randomly from larger accounts for seemingly not inactivity or DMCA. |

In the meantime, I hope jenny's right. There are places you can do bigfile downloads real fast, and it sure beats re-uploading |
