Favourite conspiracy films....
Following on from the conspiracy thread, I wondered what your favourite Conspiracy films are??
These are two of my favourites, The Pelican Brief (1993), with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pelican_Brief_(film) and , The Constant Gardener (2005) with Rachel Weisz and Ralph Feinnes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Con...Gardener_(film) Great films both of them! What do think....?

Here's the daddy of them all:
JFK The Director's Cut What's remarkable about this film is that people were criticising the film before a single frame had even been shot, courtesy of a stolen first draft that did the rounds. Arlington Road A very clever film that deals with domestic terrorism in America. |

Thanks gents! Believe it or not, the only one of those films that I have seen is Arlington Road, which was a very well thought out film, with a nice twist!
Another film that should be on my list is: Erin Brockovich (2000), again with Julia Roberts, who won an Oscar for the role, and Albert Finney. This one is based on a true story. It is also very funny, the inter action between Roberts and Finney's characters!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Brockovich_(film)

[QUOTE=shodan2011;1557443]Here's the daddy of them all:
JFK The Director's Cut What's remarkable about this film is that people were criticising the film before a single frame had even been shot, courtesy of a stolen first draft that did the rounds. I remember reading an article about Dr. Charles Crenshaw, who was one of the doctors who tried to save JFK - and subsequently, Lee Harvey Oswald as it turned out! - He mentioned that medical people from Parkland Hospital were warned not to talk to the film maker, or to have anything to do with it, supply any information etc. etc. All that, and so many years after the event too. Crenshaw himself waited until long after he was retired before writing his book!

The Manchurian Candidate
The original 1962 version, directed by John Frankenheimer. Exquisite.

3 Days of the Condor!
and on the lighter side: Foul Play 3 Days of the Condor with Robert Redford is a must see classic; always on the edge wondering about the next twist; and they just keep coming. "...considered an exposition of the moral ambiguity of the actions of the United States government following the Vietnam War and Watergate." And a really nice couple of ending twists. And I saw Foul Play as a child and my brain was whirling; funny, twisting plot and classic scenes: Dudley Moore as sex crazed man, the Albino, the dwarf ("beware of the dwarf"), just a bizarre list of characters and unique ideas that had me swimming! |

I think most "conspiracy movies" can be added to the political thriller genre. It can be a mix-up of elements from many different genres, even science-fiction or horror. To illustrate an example, "The Fury" by Brian De Palma comes to my mind. But to name a few others:
Missing (with Jack Lemmon) L.A. Confidential Scorpio (with Burt Lancaster) The Day of the Jackal etc.... |

Capricorn One
Oft cited by moon hoax believers as not so far from the truth re the Apollo program. |

Mine is The Parallax View. Very unsettling and very 70s - no happy ending.
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2245762048/tt0071970 Once upon a time, I was visiting the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on business; the senior staffer we were seeing took us to the Committee Room, unlocked it and turned the lights on - and the first to come on were the back lights behind the podium, just like the opening scene. 'Oh god, it's The Parallax View!" I spurted... Smirks from knowing hosts... The tagline is clever: There is no conspiracy. Just twelve people dead. And a film I watch at least once a year: All The President's Men All together now; "Follow the money" And the moon landing conspiracists saying that Capricorn One proves the Apollo programme was a fake is one of the most blatant examples of inductive reasoning ever perpetrated. I still love the film, though.. Last edited by Staffsyeoman; April 19th, 2011 at 09:50 PM.. |
