Default excellent choice

far too many really great songs to pick one, but if I had to "All Along the Watchtower" sums up why he deserves the prize.

You don't need a weatherman to know which way the votes go

Fair shout, he's written some great lyrics and to be honest a few of his songs will be more familiar to most people than the total collected writings of many winners.

It's about Literature, and that covers a very wide spectrum.

The times they are a-changin.

THE best lyricist of the last 100 years. He deserves it more than some of the past winners.

Dylan has some good lyrics but his voice and music are awful. I'm not sure he deserves the Nobel Prize in literature but it's not like the Nobel Prize has anything to do with actual contribution except in the fields of science. The Nobel Prize was always politically motivated and was established as self-adulation of the elites and their servants. There are many mediocre writers who won this prize, so why not a songwriter like Dylan?

To illustrate that the awarding of the Nobel Prize is a joke, let me remind you who won the Peace Prize so far:

Barack Obama - for his drone killings and regime change policies. No reason to award a single man as he's just the public face of the US neocon warmongers who may lead to us to another world war.

Henry Kissinger - good ol' Henry, the butcher of Vietnam, Cambodia, East Timor etc. His methods of overthrowing democratically elected governments are "exemplary" too.

the European Union - any comment is superfluous.

Al Gore - what was his contribution to world peace again? Probably the discovery of ManBearPig.

Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres, and Yitzhak Rabin - for their advancement of peace in Israel/Palestine. Totally understandable if you subscribe to alternative history.

Mother Theresa - people would more likely die in her "clinics" than on the streets of Calcutta.

Lech Walesa - for being a tool of Washington and bringing the Church back in politics.

Elie Wiesel - I believe he really advocated humanist policies except when they were supposed to be adopted by the Israeli government. He supported the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, acting oblivious of the Sabra and Shatila massacre. The Israeli government could count on his support again for their Lebanon operation in 2006. Let's not forget his support for Bush's Iraq invasion in 2003.

As you can see, there is no reason to think of the Nobel Proze as a prestigious award. Its economics and literature sections are enother joke. They might as well award Jamie Oliver for his recipe books.

My son saw him live in Glasgow - he said the Bobster's singing was so bad that if it hadn't been His Bobness he'd have got a good kicking from the punters.
