Now i`m sure many reading this are completely shocked , you`re thinking “Sure we already knew you were a bastard, but fat ? “

Yes chunky hands up , i`m a hog .

I`m currently eighteen stone four, when really i should be fifteen .

Where did it all go wrong that`s what i ask ?.

I drink , stuff myself with fattening food and haven`t exercised for three months yet for some reason have still gained excess weight ???

Telling you even Columbo would be stumped !

Oh alright so maybe i have a tiny problem with will power when it comes to beer , BBQ ribs ,chocolate and making myself get into a physical activity that doesn`t just involve my hips .

Buy hey is that my fault ?

Anyway this is the reason for da thread , it`s a way to encourage myself to ease up on ramming things in my munching cave and start doing horizontal press ups, by myself .

Figure that maybe , just maybe if i keep a daft record of any weight loss (Hey i live in hope) it might encourage me to stick to whatever it was that caused the weight loss (Such as deliberate food poisoning ).

Also it might encourage others of a similar affliction to take strength , nay hope from my pound shifting success.


Of course as with all determined dieters i`m not beginning just yet , nah i`ll start on Monday .

Right now i`m too busy washing down triangles of toblerone with fermented hops .

Hey i need to build up my strength alright !

See that`s what this vitally important thread is all about , it`s about us fellow beer gutters uniting and supporting one another in this our time of wobbly need .

Monday i`m intending to drink no alcohol , do at least fifty sit ups and push ups , eat no chocolate and no carbs either , plus have an evening meal that consists of an awful lot of greenery .

Actually I have to own up to being a stone and a half heavier than I was 40 years ago - I'm now about 12 stone at 59 - If I hadn't smoked like a chimney all these years and thus avoided eating for pleasure, I'd be about 20 stone I guess!

When I years ago (12 years to be correct) dramatically reduced smoking from 15 a day to 3 a week, I started to gain lot more weight, because food tested better than ever, at same time I started to spend more time with computer, so I became quite chubby. After realising it I was very disappointed and maybe depressed too, so I started to increase the time spent with my physical hobbies; cycling, walking, and playing drums and after year and half I was able to see my Love Missile F-1-11 again!
I reduced eating greasy food dramatically, but I still have one "eat everything you want"-day for week, It`s nice to wait that day every week and even plan before what to eat.

Yes, and there`s no way to start smoking again to keep slim!

I have regular check-ups at with my Doctor as I have high blood pressure. I take 3 different types of pill every day to help reduce my blood pressure. I'm also weighed. The last time I was 132 kgs! My Doctor did send me on a weight loss course. This involved short bouts of rigourous excercise 3 mornings a week. I duly partook in this course for 8 weeks and at the end I lost 6 kgs (about a stone).

I do eat a lot, I try to eat healthy and consume plenty of fruit and veg - but I do enjoy fry-up's and fish & chips, etc. I've never smoked and I don't drink alcohol.

I took up cycling in 2004 to shed my beer belly. I went from 15 stone to 10. I'd cycle 25 miles 4/5 times a week. I became addicted. I stopped drinking and stopped all fatty foods. Was I happier? no. So now I'm 12 stone; bit of a paunch but still work out when I can. The world is obsessed with weight. You are what you are, and I judge people not by their weight/looks, but by their personality.

In answer to the questions

I`m six foot three and no i can`t see my penis , well the end of it that is , but then i am in the other room

Oh and the real problem with being a good three stone heavier than i feel i should be is it`s putting pressure on my knee joints , 16.7 i can cope with but anything above that and i really start to get deep annoying aches in the center on my knees. Actually it`s all because they were messed up during my first career when the caps popping twice . Only i think they were originally weakened when i played Rugby for my school under the tutelage of a Coach who i believed learned his craft as commandant of Bergen-Belsen. Yeah a great guy ,helped me tape up my left Achilles tendon when it snapped and sent me back out onto the field .

Anyway point is i`ve really got to get the weight under control as otherwise i foresee me hitting nineteen stone by the end of the month.

So i`m taking it totally seriously and when i`ve drunk my last three cans won`t buy anymore , until Friday.

Figure each can is roughly 200 calories and on average i have three a night , so that`s six hundred a day i`m saving right there .

Plus i`m going to cut out the carbs like i say and try to eat chocolate only on Friday .

Going to do my best to lose at least a stone , then i`ll regroup and charge again , well once i`ve celebrated with an awful lot of booze and food for a day or so.

All i can say is i`ll be truthful with how i do , and try to use this page in the same way as a pal of mine uses his visits to the actual weight watchers IE motivation by guilt

Of course if anyone else wants to try and shift a few packs of lard along with me that`d be cool

Although if not

Then i hope that next slice of beautiful cheesy salami covered pizza goes down the wrong way

I piled on weight when I quite smoking 10 years ago and have a hell of a job controlling my weight.
Its starting to drop off a bit now but I'm struggling to get under 12 stone which at 5' 8" is too heavy.
Like you Max I attribute a lot of my weight problem to drinking heavily and also like you I am going to cut out midweek drinking.

I'll let you know how I do.

Three weeks ago I was 14stone 5lbs but I have shifted the 5lbs and now just 14 stone.

I am 6ft first thing in the morning and aged 50.

I need to move another 12 lbs, so count me in

My problem, curries, bread, red wine, chocolate.

I have cut out chocolate, eat a curry one per week and drink on 4 nights instead of 7. I have cut out bread, pasta, and potatos.

Next job is to drop the wine and switch to a gin and slimline tonic 4 nights per week
