Same pub, my own photo Mmmm, Veal Parmigiana Only $10 with a pot ( a glass of beer ). Truth be known, That's The Railway Hotel in a small town named Bannockburn, just out of my hometown of Geelong. when I had my property in Bannockburn, that pub was rough, real rough The kind of pub if ya didn't grow up there ya just don't go in, unless ya wanted your head licked in I only started going in there after getting too know a few more of the locals... Felt safe then The place has changed owners since and is now more family orientated , and better food But, some of our small town pubs can still be like that, rough

Well I've been in Australia for almost a week and I haven't seen one shark or crocodile. No surprise there as there are lots of mountains but no oceans.
Lots of great schnitzel and wienerwurst, no shrimps on the barby. Tons of fantastic Riesling, no Shiraz. The locals speak a strange English dialect. A word that sounds like "choose" is used for hello and goodbye. Nobody calls me mate, but rather "Herr"."

Logic says some German community in the Adelaide hills or beyond From memory where my old man is from - Clare Valley - their known for their 10+ year old Riesling Just a guess from someone whose never been there Clare Valley History The Clare Valley, named after County Clare in Ireland, with rolling hills - emerald in winter and yellow in summer. German Jesuit priests fled religious persecution in Silesia in Germany - now in Poland. They came to South Australia, moved to the Clare Valley and planted their first vines back in 1851 at Sevenhill - merely 15 years after Australia’s first free European settlers had come to start their new lives in South Australia. (South Australia never had convicts like the other states did) Australian Rieslings are much dryer than their European counterparts which tend to be sweeter! If you love Riesling, than you have definitely come to the right place? Welcome to the Clare Valley! http://topfoodandwinetours.com.au/in...ley-wine-tours Riesling in the Australian Mosaic of Wines According to Dr A C Kelly, Macarthur of Camden imported the Riesling grape variety from the Rheingau / Germany to Australia in 1838. It was noted by Dr. Philip Norrie that Riesling was produced at Prospect Creek near Sydney in the 1840s and legend reports was once enjoyed by Henry Parks and Ludwig Leichhardt. The variety, found it’s way to a number of regions in Australia, notably the Barossa Valley, the Eden Valley and the Clare Valley in South Australia and the latest vintages from the Adelaide Hills, Tasmania and Canberra are proof of the popularity in cooler regions. http://www.rieslingchallenge.com/abo...ry-of-riesling Last edited by buttsie; March 15th, 2014 at 10:02 AM..
