I was prepared for a draw as If wickets did not fall I was expecting Anderson & Broad to do the bulk of the bowling, but all the bowlers got a decent turn of the arm and all shared in the wickets, so for me a more adventurous Cook in the field this time, rather than his normal dullard tactics. Or is Farbrace a more proactive coach rather than the one dimensional Moores? |

I was going to make a series of remarks about why we had gone back to Trevor Bailey, when I remembered that he died in a fire back in 2011 I think under tragic circumstances, so it would be rather crass.
Good luck to the new chap.

The other argument about declaring is not the extra runs or the opportunity for the opposition bowler but the extra overs available for the home bowlers.
Towards the end, a second new ball could have been vital and Cook would, quite rightly, have been blasted had he not have secured the victory potentially for that reason. |

Re: Trevor Bayliss appointment.
Not sure about this. Bayliss never played international cricket and though he has achieved some international success when he coached Sri Lanka, he's mainly known for coaching success with NSW in the Sheffield Shield in 2005, and for T20 success with the Sydney Sixers and the Kolkata Knight Riders who he is currently coaching now in the IPL. |

So much for weather forecasts and Ian Ward on Sky this morning.
New Zealand currently 32-2 and Jimmy has his 400. Rain has now stopped play. |

Another good day of Cricket yesterday despite the rain. Well done Jimmy what a distinguished club you are now a member of. Keep it up, quite a few of those above you are only just above.
Also well done to the skipper today, now our leading run scorer. Push this record on because the lad from Yorkshire Joe Root will chase you down. Final congratulations to Adam Lyth on his first test Match 50. Did anyone see the Third Man piece yesterday by Bumble, showing the North South Divide? He showed the smartly dressed members at Lords in their striped jackets and ties, lots of bottles of champagne, and then from Headingly, flat caps, fancy dress, and a beer snake 40 meters long!

Bumble is unique to commentary, only he can name several dozen chip shops in a lull in a Test Match and make it interesting. I thought England played a blinder today, Cook overtaking Gooch's run total AND Adam Lych making a maiden 50 and 100. Shame that Root and Stokes didn't last long. Let's hope Bell and Buttler can make more runs tomorrow. We should win this Test Match and the series but you never know - they don't have a really fast bowler so that could be in OUR favour.
Am I the only one that shouts at Mike Atherton to stop mumbling? He seems to lower his voice to a whisper and you can barely hear what he is saying.
