I thought that VEF members would be interested in my experience with W-7.
All of my 7 Dell PC's (new in the past year or two) run W-7 Pro and Office 13. I have let both W-7 and the applications update as they wished without any interference. I am self employed and we have a part time IT guy on call. The work machines are networked to a server. The only issue that I have had with this setup is the W-10 nag screen. Perhaps some of the trouble some of you have had with W-7 slowing down and so forth is related to not letting W-7 update as it wishes. I switched from XP pro partly as a result of the Company that I am associated with forcing us to switch and also because all of our machines were 6 to 8 years old. We had no trouble with XP either. We followed the same policy with XP also, letting it update as it wished. BTW all of the new Dell's were purchased at Costco which has a GREAT PC support system called concierge. I have no intention of switching to W-10. If it ain't broke don't fix it. |

Perhaps for the moment they probably stay away from W-10 simply because this new system is not mature. But as time passes on the machines are growing older and there will be a time for changing them. |

I bought my wife a WalknBook (10" laptop/tablet) which runs on Windows. (I would have preferred Android, myself.) It was supposed to come with 8.1, but came with... you guessed it... 10! So now I am learning to deal with Windows Dix.
http://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-iCleve.../dp/B012NFW6EM She confessed that the screen was too small to read comfortably, so she gave it to me - after all the time I spent setting it up for her! - and bought herself a 15.6" laptop, also with... you guessed it... Windows 10! I'm getting a real education.

Ransomware found
After reinstalling W-7 I had to reinstall every tool.
That was the occasion to check on new versions. So I installed a small tool which permits me to print a rapport toward a file that every one can read and which I can send on the Internet. This tool was doPDF. The new version is 8.3. But when I tested it, I was warned by Bitdefender the file about to be created was a ransomware and would launch another program. I deinstalled immediately doPDF 8.3 and reinstalled the previous version which works without ransomware. So I thank Ditdefender. The author of the malware is Softland. They incorporated a ransomware in their new version and put it on the web to be downloaded. You are never too careful. |
