Beethoven - Piano Trio, Op. 97 (Archduke Trio)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mrfy_D9JVE
Recorded in 1970 Piano: Wilhelm Kempff Violin: Henryk Szeryng Cello: Pierre Fournier Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 97, by Ludwig van Beethoven is a piano trio for piano, violin, and cello, finished in 1811. It is commonly referred to as the Archduke Trio, because it was dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, an amateur pianist who was a friend and composition student of Beethoven. The trio was written late in the composer's so-called "middle period". He began composing it in the summer of 1810, and completed it in March 1811. Although the "Archduke Trio" is sometimes numbered as "No. 7", the numbering of Beethoven's twelve piano trios is not standardized, and in other sources the Op. 97 trio may be shown as having a different number, if any. Allegro moderato, 4/3 Scherzo (Allegro), 3/4 Andante cantabile ma però con moto. Poco piu adagio, D major, 3/4 Allegro moderato – Presto, 2/4 – 6/8 |

https://youtu.be/AqniEr0plOI Baldassare Galuppi was an Italian composer who lived during the middle Baroque period to the middle Classical period. He became quite famous throughout Europe because of his comic operas. He became known to succeeding generations as " the father of comic opera". He like so many other composers traveled all over Europe, but spent most of his life in Venice. Galuppi became quite skilled as a composer of harpsichord pieces, and he composed much other instrumental works. The disc I have has 7 of twelve string symphonies that he composed. After his death his music was largely forgotten outside of Italy. It was not until the last years of the 20th century that his music was revived and is now heard in live performances and in recordings. My disc is out of print so what you will hear is music from a re-issued disc. Last edited by trailmaster; March 10th, 2020 at 12:14 PM.. |
