Probably taking out locked doors!!! With a bore that size you do not need a key!!

But these days, many of the 'new' AKs have grenade launchers attached, so I still don't understand

But if what Mal Hombre says is true, there must be a need somewhere

Unless they just want to play Rambo, which wouldn't be unknown

In 408, the Roman Emperor Theodosius II barred pagans from military service, and in 416 prohibited providing arms or military training to pagans.

Brig. Gen. David E. Twiggs was unable to command his division during the fighting at Monterrey, Mexico, on September 23-24, 1846, because, believing it would reduce the chance of infection should he be wounded in the bowels, he had dosed himself liberally with a laxative and was suffering a serious case of the runs, though despite his non-participation in the fight, he received a brevet promotion to major general and was awarded swords of honor by Congress, the State of Georgia, and the city of Augusta therein.

An inscription dedicated by the Legio I Minerva at Cologne during the Second Century commemorates the capture of fifty bears within a six-month period by the centurion Tarquitius Restutus Pisauro.

Between July of 1776, when he commanded what was the largest American field army until the Civil War, in the vicinity of New York, and December of that year, on the eve of his brilliant Trenton-Princeton Campaign, forces under George Washington’s direct control fell from about 20,000 men to only about 4,000, mostly due to desertion.

If you have to get through a locked door quickly, then a 12 gauge solid shot, with the muzzle pressed up against the lock will open it nicely!
If you are inside a building going from one room to another, then you do not want to start firing grenades around, the splinters etc. will probably do you as much harm as an enemy! Also, I do not know about the Russian weapons, but with the M203 40mm grenade launcher, the grenade has to travel about 15 or 20 metres before the grenade arms itself, so again, using it in a confined space is not much good.

I originally posted this in the WWII thread, regarding helmets, but it might be correct to post this here too....

During the 17th century when 'gentlemen', as opposed to soldiers, wore a wide brimmed felt hat, there was obviously the need for a little extra protection. So a simple iron or steel skull was often worn under the hat, originating in France and called a Secrète. Hence the saying, 'If you've got a secret, keep it under your hat!'

I think the door hinges are usually the target after that the door will generally respond to a sturdy kick....

The problem with that is that, a. you do not know the exact placement of the hinges, nor b. how many there are. If there are only two, then a rough guess with the 12 guage may just do the job and weaken it sufficiently for a size twelve boot to do the rest, but if there are three, you may well have problems.......

But then again, the door might also bolted...........

From about 1666 until at least 1906, the French armed forces almost continuously had plans on file or under development for an invasion of Britain.

Captured by the British in 1779, the 18-gun Connecticut corvette Oliver Cromwell, named after the man who overthrew the English crown in 1649, was taken into the Royal Navy as HMS Restoration, reminding everyone that while Cromwell had ended the British monarchy in 1649, it had returned little more than a decade later.

Attacking Numantia, in Spain, in 153 BC, the Roman commander Marcus Fulvius Nobilior deployed ten elephants to literally push down the city wall, which met with initial success, until a heavy piece of masonry crashed down on one beast’s head, causing him to panic, which infected the other nine pachyderms, who promptly stampeded over the very troops whom they were supposed to be supporting.

In 1764, Frederick the Great proposed establishing a special military school in which some 15 or so promising young officers would receive special tutoring in the arts, sciences, protocol, languages, diplomacy, manners, and so forth from a half-dozen or so noted scholars and specialists, among whom he hoped to include Giacomo Casanova, who turned him down.

Introduced to Wellington, a visiting American said, "Pleased to meet you, sir", to which the Duke replied icily "And so you damned well ought to be."

Casimir Pulaski, who perished in 1779 while trying to capture Savannah from the British during the American Revolution, was the son of the leading landowner in Poland, with estates so vast they included 14 cities and 108 villages.

Almost everyone in the world had plans for an invasion of Britain. Unless they were already invaded by Britain themselves

The USA had a plan between the wars to invade Canada, in fact there was a documentary about it on channel 5 recently.
