Best bunnies.
I think the best suggestions were all made in the first couple of pages of this thread: Go back to the "Girl Next Door" theme.
I find the golden era of Playboy was from about 1973--1982. In other words, from thime when they could show full-frontal to the time when Hef's daughter started running the place. PB did use some airbrushing in those days, but it was done beautifully. If I was in charge of saving PB, I would implement all of the original poster's suggestions. I would ban big tattoos and nasty piercings, and I would allow no shoots in un-erotic sets, such as construction sites or sports arenas. I don't think PB needs more raunch. If I want a gynecological exam, that's what Larry's mag is for. It's been that way for 36 years now. I wanted to have sex with the girls in Hustler, Club, or even Penthouse. However, I wanted to fall in love with the girls in PB. Hef had great photographers. PB Centerfolds looked like they could carry on an intelligent conversation and be a lot of fun out of bed as well as in. The girls, flirted, smiled, and winked...and you got to see them naked in their apartments or dorm rooms. Never got that from Larry's girls who stretched their labia like it was Silly Putty. I liked that too, but it was porn, not a sweet, sedective girl who smiles at you and takes her clothes off. I guess this is part of turning into a dirty old man while living in a college town. I work with so many adorable 19 and 20-year-olds. I'm old enough to be their dad, but I find their youthful innocence sooooo appealing. Now, I'm not the type of dirty old man who goes around asking women half my age or less out on dates with hopes of getting them into the sack. I see guys my age with lascivious intentions go after college women. I just wanna say, "You know, If I was her daddy, I'd punch you right in the mouth!" Thus, Playboy is "fantasy." Did the "girl next door" really look like that? Probably not. However, the old Centerfold profile gave the impression of getting to know that sweet young gal...and seeing her naked! Fantasy. If you take the opposite tack and get rid of the full-frontal, you end up with Maxim. You get articles about motorcycles and stereo systems and a few seminudes in gaudy makeup. Who cares. Give me Pamela Zinzer, and I'll be happy for days! |

BTW, I gotta reiterate, for a lot of men reading PB in 1974, it was something for a pretty girl to show you her pubic hair. I mean, it was exciting and special. I don't think guys under thirty understand that. Playboy might be sunk in the long-run. Their reign might end in the next decade, but sixty years is a respectable run for any periodical.
Oh, and of course, my initial answer to the question was "Under my mattress!" Last edited by Alvin Lucifer; February 2nd, 2010 at 04:55 AM.. |

PEI squandered any cool factor they had a long time ago- having a pathetic old stroke victim who's willing to sacrifice his dignity in the name of some publicity as your front man hasn't helped. What's worse is that they never grokked the web until their competition had eaten eaten the legs off their brand.
Even if PEI had competent management since HH's stroke, print is as dead as pay porn. There's nothing that can be done. As Sam Kinison once said "Know when to die". |

Total pornofication!
Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know what some guys are thinking now: ‘Then it wouldn’t be Playboy anymore, the whole style would be gone.’ What style? The image of an old fart in a red jacket, chewing on a pipe - am I the only person here who thinks that this might be a little bit gay - who is having a cultivated conversation with well educated young women? The good old in & out game is the only thing these bitches are made for. |

Anyone that's seen any of my threads, has no doubt that BBN, is
definitely a vintage Pl@yboy fan. I might add that this would include the man that brought Pl@yboy to us. I won't get in a "pissing contest", with those that say that Hefner is and has always been nothing but a joke, because it just wouldn't be a fair contest for them. Suggestions to "save" the bunny mag from me? Other than downsizing and getting back to roots.......not much. Ban all "un-natural" girls? Hell no, enhanced playmates goes back much further than anyone realizes. Only show true "girls next door"? Well sir.......I truly believe that's what you're seeing now. That gal with the shaved pussy, and the 2 or 3 tats, lives across the street from you. You wanna blame Hefner and Pl@yboy for that? Big fake titties? Yep.....quite a few in the mag, can't deny that. But then there's many that are not, but you still think they are too. Celebs have always been a big part of PB. Pissed because a certain celeb didn't "show" anything? Nothing new there. Reference Raquel Welch's appearance years ago. Personally, my best hope would be for them to satisfy their present customers, and let that very improvement acquire the new customers they seem to be trying to get now. The girls in the old days? Great. The girls now.....not so bad. Here's random centerfolds more than 20 years apart just for comparison. Of course you could show those that truly have that "plastic" look, but most the time it seems to me to be more a case of the photographer than the girl. Ya can't resurrect Pompeo Posar or Richard Fegley , but they can sure be emulated. Let Pl@yboy die? Who in this thread that is of this thought, is a subcriber? Let's take that a step further. Who in this thread that is of this thought, is a subscriber to ANY similar type of publication. How about one more step, who of this thought, has actually made a purchase of any type of magazine of this type this past year? The old saying goes, You get what you pay for. This I feel is a really significant comment: photography can transform a girl's apperance either for good or for ill. Not merely the technical side, which I know precious little about, but the choice of locations, clothing (yes, clothing) and the underlying vision of the photographer. All these things make or break the quality of the final outcome. Even the most beautiful model at the peak of her form will do better in one shoot than in another and this is mostly due to how well the photographer did his/her job. As well as seeking out really good models, PB have to be strict about only employing photographers with a strong record for really doing justice to a beautiful model.

I think that nudie photography was much better , not just in PB , before the advent of digital cameras which seem to make the images cold and hard and artificial. Not that I know anything about the technical side either. |

Lose Kendra(she's a liability, not an asset). Same with Hef. NO ONE wants to see a 80+ year-old man in pajamas(doesn't he have any REAL clothes?) surrounded by silicone-blasted girls? When WAS the last time he personally used the Grotto, anyway?
He shut out Teri Weigel when she started doing hardcore because the regular modelling gigs were drying up. Guess it was something about his 'girl-next-door' mindset that made him do it. News flash, Hef: nearly ALL the girls-next-door in America are doing the same thing! And speaking of silicone-blasted girls, LOSE THEM! That's what Hustler is for. |

Problem is that if it changes people say "It's not like the good old PB" and if it doesn't people say "It's dated"
PB has changed to deal with shifts in public taste and expectations. There's quite simply too much competition and its only weapon is quality. And with so many blow up dolls rather than real models it falls short. And please lets have girls who haven't disfigured themselves with tattoos. Although there are those who like to possess a hard copy that's only a minority these days. |
