You are doing well. I was a little behind when Poker Stars and Full Tilt got shut down. It was disappointing, because I was up over the previous year and felt I had learned how to win at online poker. But even a small loss of 0.7% of my income was cheap entertainment.

Some folks are degenerate gamblers, but most know how to risk affordable amounts. Most people are social drinkers, but 7% cannot control and enjoy their drinking. It is odd that many of us fear the addictive power of opiates and are extremely careful when they are prescribed, but some folks...

Sports betting is a joke, it's ruined a lot of sport here, seems a lot of the sports talk is centred around the odds of a result and not the sport The only sports betting I do is among Mates and nothing big, $50 is about the average wager among us.

If there is any chance of human meddling in a result I won't gamble on it, sports and in particular horse racing. I do wonder how many times a professional sportsman or woman sportsperson to be PC has deliberately stuffed up a few times during a game to sway a result and they make that handsome profit privately .... we'll never know but it does make one wonder how many times nobody has been caught doing it. That's why I won't bet on sports with the gambling companies.

I think that even top elite tennisplayers made (and still make) thousands of EUR more per game by deliberately leaving balls in the net or losing easy points.
It's the same in soccer or snooker, etc...


Apart if you are able to count the cards, you can't technically win money in Casino. Isn't it?

Correct I have found a way that makes the odds closer to even but still in casinos favour on roulette.

Way back when I was single and didn't give a shit about anything and we had a night out gambling with the boys, I'd play blackjack from time to time. If I didn't like someone on the table, a stranger, I'd deliberately draw a card i if I didn't need it just to increase the chance of fucking up the hand for everyone ... losing didn't worry me, it was just fun I know, not nice SO even counting cards can be fucked if you had an idiot like me there

A good friend of mine has been almost ruined by drugs and (internet) gambling. He's a really smart guy (or he was), he was very mathematically gifted at school, and went on to study physics, but it was amazing the way he'd twist logic to justify what he was doing, it was not fun to watch.

He might have sorted himself out now, but still, it's a big worry. Never gamble anything you care about losing.

When people are good in mathematics, there is a part of arrogance. "I will be THE guy who will find the magic rules." That's a mixture of greed and intellectual challenge. But... it's a biaised challenge.

The fact is, that's like the forecast weather equations, you can get the best models, the initial conditions are infinite and then a lot of factors can change during the game. The bookmakers know that very well. They rarely pay the real price of the event. And if the gambler is good (that sometimes happens), the bookmakers create unfair rules to limit the benefit of the gambler.

I remember a TV report in which psychologists said, that gamble addiction can be as strong as a hard drug. That's really dangerous.

I've watched on youtube an old documentary about French addicts who daily played in Casino. This documentary was made just before the computers day. One of these addicts had written books full of results and calculated by hand the probabilities.
He had to fish in the river, because he was too broke to buy his own food.
He said: "When you are addicted as I am, you are dead a long time before your real death. I'm dead since several years."
It was a tragedy.

Another one was more a little crook, who said that he never had money to pay his bills, but always found a way to get money to gamble it.

SnowBirds they come to the Desert every winter when the first snow hits , they may bring money to the area but their driving habits are atrocious , they can't find where they are going so they stop in the middle of the streets which stops traffic , to counter this some of us have installed train horns in our trucks , they pee their pants when it sounds but is still annoying as it drowns out my own radio

My ISP has been "unable to display" twice for long periods in the last 36 hours. This is the only site it won't connect to.

Very annoying.
