Commons leader Andrea Leadsom quits government over Brexit
Commons leader Andrea Leadsom has quit the cabinet, saying she no longer believes the government's approach will deliver Brexit.
Her resignation comes amid a backlash against Theresa May's Brexit plan from Conservative MPs. Several cabinet ministers have told the BBC that the PM cannot stay, with one saying it is "the end of the line". In a letter to the prime minister, she said she did not believe "the UK would be a truly sovereign United Kingdom through the deal that is now proposed". She also described holding another referendum as "dangerously divisive", and said she was opposed to the government "willingly facilitating such a concession". ^^ There is an 'interesting' chart of the number of Cabinet resignations under St. Theresa against her predecessors. As it stands tonight she has chalked up 36. Shame that others do not have the balls shown by Leadsom.
Yet the cynics have already put this down to a thwarted ambition of her to seal the top job when she bottled the chance 3 years ago. Yet St. Theresa has gone to ground. Will not meet anyone from her Cabinet for private discussion despite several requests. Even the 1922 committee can not make its mind up. Change the rules or not. Ok. Let's give her another 48 hours to see if she will go on her own. But even the Mail today, easily one of her staunchest supporters, balked at her latest plan. A mad gamble at the very least. |

The Daily Mail doesn't 'support' anyone. it uses polling data much like any other commercial organisation to align itself politically with it's market. In the case of a large media organisation like The Mail, it's readership. Advertisers wishing to reach socially/fiscally conservative C1 and C2s wouldn't book space in publication that didn't mirror the views of it's audience. Paul Dacre was sacked as editor as his ultra conservative line fell out of favour with consensus savvy Mail readers so advertisers started pulling ads. Coronated - Isn't that something to do with cigars, or light around planets?

Maybe politicians should be chlorinated to prolong their shelf life

Dead Boring (what else do you think that DB stands for ?) response time.
'Coronated' is not a proper word. It is a incorrect derivative of Coronation. Even so, St. Theresa is one of a recent line of Conservative leaders who did not come under the scrutiny of a full member vote. After Major (don't remember him being elected either) there was Hague, IDS and Michael Howard. Maybe one of the last three was elected but I am not arsed enough right now to check that. As for the Mail, and most of the original non-tabloid press, it is traditionally a Conservative-supporting paper. That is not to say that all of its readers are Conservative-supporting. The current writer included. But the current editorial is (well up until yesterday was) very May-friendly. No doubt it will also fall behind the next leader whoever he or she will be. |

Well voting in what many of us see as a pointless election, the UK EU Parliamentary elections is underway, my vote is cast.
Still not seen any literature from the Lib Dems or Conservative, the LD's I would ignore anyway as they have been pro-EU warts and all, the Tories are so divided they were probably still arguing over the size of the leaflets
