How much do pornstars make?
I can't get a pretty girl to even look at me. How do porn people get beautiful girls to let strangers cum on their faces and do it in front of a camera? How much does it take to persuade a girl to do that?

It depends on how desperate for money the girl is. Some girls will do for $500 what others will do for no less than $5,000. That's show biz!

Nina Hartley was talking about this on her message board a few years back and she said that in the early 90's during the Savannah/Victoria Paris/Janine era they came pretty close to creating a guild ala SAG. Their main issue was a salary floor for contract performers. The problem was the internet came along and all the sudden anyone with a webcam could pull in the same amount of money as Steve Hirsh for a fraction of the overhead by hiring girls willing to work for 100 bucks or simply drugs. (Her quote was, "unfortunately there will always be someone desperate enough to do far more for far less.")
The days of Jenna Jameson making a minimum, (reported,) $100,000 per movie are long gone and girls today are lucky to make more than $500 a scene anymore. As for the men, since most run their own sites and screw the girls, 'hired guns' are borderline dinosaurs now. They have never made more than the girls at any point in the industry's history, (other than a rare few like Harry Reems and John Holmes but this was over 30 years ago,) and I can't imagine this having changed. That said, the site owners who do their own scenes probably make a lot since they are getting all the profits from their own sites. |

Supposedly, John Holmes was making around $3,000 a film, for a two scene appearance...in the late seventies, early eighties. So, apparently he was making approximately $1,500 a fuck...not bad. Of course, he squandered it all away, and needed more. I would say, if he were in his prime today, as compared to then, he would be making at least $15,000 to $20,000 a scene.

The days of big pay porn stars must be long gone. You can see pretty girls doing absolute filth with their guys and posting it for nothing.
What on earth do they get out of that? Must be like doggers, I suppose! |

Porn stars never made all that much (with a very few, rare exceptions). For the women the payoff was on the dance and club circuit. A Big Name porn star headlining at a strip club got paid well by the club plus whatever tips she got. At least that's how it used to be. Its also why some of the higher profile stars from a decade or two ago tried to get into the production side, where the real money is.

I think it depends a lot. There are small fishes with poor earnings and such porn giants like Jenna Jameson..as in the every branch....

It seems like there are no more "porn stars" since the Internet became universal about ten years ago. Now it seems like they're just hookers turning tricks on video. I was watching some porn clips from the '80s last weekend. We used to laugh at how cheesy the acting, the music, and the directing was in those old porno films, but compared to the utterly mindless drek churned out by today's porn-mongers, even low-budget sleaze (such as one I saw yesterday, "Queen of Spades," 1986, Chanel Price, Ray Victory) seem like "Citizen Kane" or "Gone With the Wind" compared to Internet chaff of today featuring an overgrown frat boy, one video camera, and some dumb college ****.
My apologies to dumb college ***** everywhere! Speaking of male porn stars, apparently Ron Jeremy did well for himself. He never got into the drugs, partying, and big-spending that went along with the porno scene. While he could have bought a Porsche or a Mercedes, he tooled around in a beat-up Ford Escort with no radio! A penny saved is a penny earned as my gramps used to say! ... for that matter, he probably also saved a LOT of money over the years by hitting the "all you can eat" buffet restaurants on a pretty regular basis!!

CNBC had a good documentary on this and apparently top actresses like Jesse Jane (?) can make about $250,000 - $300,000 a year. Silvia Saint probably made good money 10 years ago because she was a Penthouse Pet Of The Year (Czech edition) and made a ton of adult films (anywhere from 10-30 a year I believe). I think I read that Jenna Jameson made $500,000 a year at her peak but she probably was putting out films under her own label and keeping alot of the profits.
I'm not even sure if performers are paid by the film anymore -- maybe the top stars like Jesse, Silvia, or Jenna Jameson -- but most girls are probably paid by sex scene: this much for this type of sex act, this much for this type of sex act, etc etc. Needless to say, unless you're a superstar and can dictate work and monetary conditions, this leads to a situation where after a while you don't get called for work unless you agree to DO MORE for LESS MONEY. Years ago, I think the actors and actresses got paid PER DAY. Needless to say, you could find yourself doing alot more work and doing kinkier scenes one day than another. If you can run a successful web site, that's additional money. Ditto being a featured dancer -- although that requires alot of time and committment unless you're an elite 'name' performer like Jesse, Silvia, or Jenna. You just can't stop filming adult-films for a few weeks and go on tour like you could maybe 15 years ago when the clubs were dying for big-name performers. You need to hit the circuit, have costumes, a routine, and line up clubs. At one time, featured dancers -- mostly the busty type, not adult film stars -- could command $25,000 a week just for appearing (they'd make more $$$ with tips, selling stuff, etc). But then more and more girls started dancing, the allure of the new clubs faded, and it turned out that strip clubs were a product of the stock bubble and a bubble themselves. I don't think more than a few girls today get more than $5,000 a week for headlining (you don't even see the clubs advertising much anymore; in New York, they used to advertise in all the daily papers 2-3 times a week. Now, I never see an ad promoting a feature dancer). |
