^^ If Jo had been playing it might have tipped the Balance.

PS. Life's too short to fret over smelling pistakes.

Moeen Ali must be the find of the decade! He has now reached the milestone of 2,000 runs and 100 wickets in fewer tests than even the great Ian Botham!
There is always a frisson of expectation when he either steps out to the wicket or takes the ball, as he has a reputation of being able to winkle out a stubborn opponent early in his spell, and with good technique, good judgement and power he is a destructive batsman of ordinary bowling. He said in interview yesterday that he enjoys coming in at 2 or 3 down and needing to stick in and get some runs, and he does seem to enjoy his cricket, whatever the match situation. I really enjoy watching him play.

There are other parallels with Ian Botham, for example in the way many people passing themselves off as knowledgeable commentators have disparaged his bowling ability, which is a damned sight more than Liam Dawson's IMHO. I was pleased to read that Joe Root has asked Moeen to think in a more attacking way and more in terms of taking wickets and less in terms of worrying about the run rate. it is a different game these days and draws are less common now. Also, Moeen most certainly turns the ball and has variations and is a natural attacking bowler: Joe Root is only asking him to play his normal game.

This double statistic tells no lies. Moeen is a fine all-rounder and we are lucky to have him.

Pope Francis ia a Jesuit of course. I'm sure other Pontiffs would have rooted for the White Rose county.

Sorry it was purely tongue in cheek, not set to upset, it is an old army saying, I openly acknowledge that had Yorkshire had even their second string fully fit the result would have been different! The comment was aimed squarely at the mediocrity of Somerset this season, certainly not at Yorkshire!

I have great love and affection for the White Rose County, especially as when I am in the UK, rarely at the moment, I live in the county!

Only because the batsmen England allow us to play are having a mare of a season. First team at Lords, second team at Scarbados.

Not the ideal time for yet another deck of cards, Bairstow & Moeen need to dig in.

More like Russian roulette, six wickets for forty runs, its just becoming part of the norm as it is happening on a regular basis. The Saffers could be batting anytime soon, just a question of how long Wood & Anderson can hang around wih Bairstow.

It would appear the pitch has suddenly gained some demons. Since midday more like a dodgy Chelmsford track, but not as bad as Westcliff.
