In the light of the new series(now finished) of Sherlock Holmes I often wondered where the name came from-It has been said it was derived from two cricketers admired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. SHERingford and Oliver Wendell Holmes - however there might also have been another cricketer called Sherlock, but Doyle said he based it on the name of a dentist pracitising in London at the time. Whichever it is, they are all plausible.

British rapper and singer Mark Morrison was arrested once for bringing a firearm aboard an airliner and was due to appear in court but he did a runner and sent a lookalike in his place to do his community service order-however he was duly re-arrested and did his time, then came back with his single 'Return of the Mack'. Sooner or later that young twit is going to end up in prison for his antics OR completely alienate his fan base. He is currently being investigated for an alleged egging incident, which no doubt he considers a prank but not the police-you might say this is unBIELEBERable! although you won't catch me saying it. Back on the subject of the name Canada, or to give it its full name The Dominion of Canada. One story I heard was that on one of the first expeditions they asked a native "where are we?" and got the reply "canada" or something like that. According to the story the word "canada" meant "I dont understand". Its a very nice story! Oh and although Canadian governments dont use the term Dominion anymore that is Canadas correct title, in 1867 the British government wanted to use the title Canadian Empire, but that would have annoyed the USA so Dominion(which means Empire) was used instead.
