Big Grin The Party deja vu

Hi

In Feb of 1969 I was visiting an engineering works near Manchester, with an entourage of associates.
The MD of the works invited us all out to dinner one night.
My lead engineer sat opposite the wife of the MD, and had the misfortune
to order roast duckling. It was tough.
When he attempted to cut into it, it was propelled across the table into the lady's lap
scattering mashed potatoes and green peas all over as it went.

A most embarassing scene. Much later we laughed heartily.

Can you imaging my emotion later that year on seeing Peter Sellers performing
the very same scene in The Party, except that the duckling wound up in the lady's hat.
I've been laughing ever since.

Who could ever forget Neil Simon's Murder by Death from 1976? He was hilarious as Inspector Sydney Wang! Great parody film.

Big Grin With Cato in the Pink Panther

How about those marvellous skits with Burt Kwouk (Cato ) in the Pink Panther series.
You never could tell when to expect one, and they were hilarious.

I half expected Burt might try to repreive some of that when he joined Last of the Summer Wine
picking up from Bill Owen (Compo) , but he has not yet done so.

Instead just being supportive of the main characters, and providing the transportation.

Default Peter Sellers and Kermit the Frog

Years and years ago I was at a friend's house and the kids were getting ready to watch The Muppet Show. Sellers was the guest that night. I HAD to set down and watch. I laughed my ass off. You can't even imagine him and Kermit the Frog together!

The movie "Heaven Above" in which he played a wacky vicar who took the Gospel too seriously.

Late in his life, he did a bedroom/dining room comedy with Goldie Hawn. He played a playboy in that. Sadly, it did not work.

The bedroom scene with Shirley MacLaine is one of the funniest things ever filmed. I can no longer watch the porn classic "I Like To Watch" without hearing Seller's voice.

I loved the Pink Panther movies but I think for me it will be Dr Strangelove that I remember him for. Comedy at its blackest. It's also the best Kubrick movie in my opinion.
Another vote for the Geoffre Rush movie ... an extraordinary performance ... but don't come away expecting to like the man afterwards.

It's a sad fact that He was a great performer but a deplorable human being, not uncommon amongst comedians.
