Downloading videos that plays through JW player
Hey all,
I am on this website and they use the JWplayer to stream their videos. I found the work around which is disable the flash shockwave in the plugin manager. This switches the player from using Flash to HTML5 and allows all the video download plugins I have, either in FF or Chrome, to grab the video and download it. The problem is that for older videos they use an older version of the JW player and if the shockwave plugin is disabled the player doesn't show at all, and thus I can't play back the file. I've searched high and low and I can't seem to find a solution. I remember using a software several years ago that would act as a browser and so would let you log on to the website through and monitor the network traffic and let you download the stream....but alas I can't recall the name of that software. I seem to recall that in the early days of Hulu it was widely used because it would allow to folks to download videos from it. Any help would be great, thanks! |

One way around it is to use an application which records the video screen image and builds a file from it onto your HDD. I use Replay Video Player by Applian. A Google search will find it, external commercial links are banned on VEF. The free version records only up to 2 minutes though so you will probably have to hand over some GBP/USD to get the full version.

I use a Mac and have an app called Screen Record Pro-HD Screen Recorder. With that you can record whatever is happening on your entire screen or just a selected area you choose, works perfect.

I am not really looking for a screen capture as the video quality is already fairly low. |

I was looking for similar solution with JW stream videos, and here's what works for me in Firefox 65 (no plugins, no video capturing needed). I'm pretty sure that it's also possible to do something similar via right click "Inspect Element" command console in Chrome (or maybe even in similar fashion to Firefox) and I've seen working solution for Chrome in Quora forums.
In Firefox: 1. Start playing the video and select desired quality 2. Right click on the page with embedded JW video 3. Select "view page info" 4. Click on "Media" tab 5. You will probably see multiple lines there. Have a look at type column. You can click on it to sort by media type. You are interested in "video" so look for this type of link in that column. 6. Select this video link with left mouse click and click "save as" button, located right above the preview window. 7. Video will be downloaded in previously selected quality. I hope it helps. As I've mentioned, there are possibly multiple ways to do that. Visit Quora or google for Chrome solutions. Last edited by Omnidirector; January 31st, 2019 at 04:09 PM.. |

With Google Chrome you can use the Developer Tools option. It works on many sites, including those with JW Player videos; but not all of them. Some sites are locked up tight, and the streaming file cannot be accessed (at least not by me).
