Just finished Armageddon 2419 by Philip Francis Nowlan, which was the original Buck Rogers adventure.
For someone raised on the old Gil Gerard series, its quite a different story altogether. For a start, nowhere is he called "Buck", its just Anthony Rogers. And it takes place completely in a US ruled by the evil Han, making the novel a sort of John Carter-esque romance crossed with Yellow Peril warnings.

I am currently reading "Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies" by Jared Diamond. Since the school year ended I don't have a "need" for a "work" read and a "home" read. Some colleagues and I formed a small book club for the coming school year and we chose 4 books: "Havana Nocturne", "And the Mountains Echoed", "Coolidge", and "And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails."

Love a bit of Ollie
I`m reading Evil Spirits, the life of Oliver Reed. If ever there was someone for whom the term "inner demons" was coined, it had to be Ollie. His career had a promising start then gradually declined as his personality crushed his artistic talent. Reading the book, it`s difficult not to feel sorry for him. I think he did have the talent to become a great actor and from my perspective, he was devilishly handsome

As a 19th-century literature obsessive, I felt a bit embarrassed that the only Wilkie Collins novel I'd read was The Woman in White. Well, it was, because I've just added The Moonstone to that short list. A genuine prototype for modern day crime writers of the calibre of Dexter, Rendall, Rankin et al.
Next, the final part of John Julius Norwich's brilliant history of the Byzantine empire. I've been saving part three for a while and have mixed feelings. I'm really looking forward to it, but there's a sense of disappointment because there are no more to come once I've finished. It's a wonderful series.

Having at last found the time to finish Evil spirits the life of Oliver Reed, I was amazed to learn that Ollie had been considered as a serious successor to Sean Connery, as James Bond. Cubby Broccoli had been impressed by his work and offered Ollie the Bond role in On Her Majesty`s secret service. But true to form, Reed screwed his chances - a weekend bender - and the role was instead given to George Lazenby. It`s a real shame, I would have loved to have seen Ollie as 007.

Pete Townshend - Who I am
Purchased this Autobiography last weekend & it's a storming read.
Very candid & harsh in places, so I can imagine being in a group with him would be a bit of an ordeal. Still he wrote some of the greatest rock songs of all time, behind blue eyes, bargain, sorry somehow..etc. One of the best guitarists I have seen live, always amazing ...Kudos to the guy.

I am currently reading "Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies" by Jared Diamond. Next up: "Havana Nocturne" about the mob's influence in Cuba and how it lost everything in the revolution in 1959.
