The thing that nobody is talking about - is why should somebody still have clearance after they have retired from their post.

What Trump is doing is clearly vindictive and the actions of a spoiled brat.

Almost every article I have read explains that successors in Intelligence positions often call upon their predecessors for advice on situations. The "wealth of experience" is said to be very worthwhile.

I am being very patient waiting for the massive stroke that will lead to the inauguration of President Pence. Hopefully, realizing the stupidity of hiring Omarosa will hasten this event.

I am in two minds about the John Brennan story. In Britain, John Brennan's behaviour would be extremely frowned upon. The closest equivalent Britain has to the CIA is MI5. You don't hear much in public from the heads of intelligence agencies such as MI5 or MI6.

So why does John Brennan shoot his mouth off so much? He is a retired public servant and in the UK we would firmly expect him to keep quiet because his duty would be to serve any elected government impartially and to be above politics. In President Trump's shoes I absolutely would revoke Mr Brennan's security clearance because the man is abusing his position.

On the other hand, I can't help suspecting that Mr Brennan's real crime in the eyes of President Trump is that he criticises President Trump. I think Mr Trump is a coward and a bully, who prefers to suppress criticism because he is not man enough to answer it properly.

It is because in Britain you got etiquette.

In Denmark we have a former head of PET - Police Intelligence Service - who likes to give his view on everything security related - he is seen as a major pain in the neck and his successor wrote a book - which was published even though PET had not had time to vet its context.

In my view you should be given a form for temporary clearence. So that you can advice your successors.

Believe MI6 is the equivalent to the CIA

MI5 would be the FBI/NSA.

Of course, the US has so many "security" agencies, it's impossible to keep track of who does what to whom and why. The how and where are fairly obvious.

Funny thing is that Trump doesn't seem interested in security briefs while he IS President, I can't imagine him being interested after.

Each country is different and comparisons are usually meaningless. The CIA is principally an agency for the interpretation of data, most of it gathered by low-earth orbit satellites. How rainfall in the big bend of the Yellow River affects the winter wheat crop in China, and similar matters. Unfortunately, part of the creation of the CIA involved absorbing what was left of the OSS from WW II. The CIA is about 95% interpretation and 5% action. The action guys are usually assholes.

The actions of Mr Brennan and James Clapper, who has published a book about his experience, are unprecedented to the best of my recollection. My surmise is that they are truly alarmed by the influence Vladimir Putin has over President Trump. Both are probably aware of highly classified information that cannot be revealed without compromising sources and endangering lives.

I don't think future historians will have high praise for this era of our countries' histories.

We know that he has conveyed high-security information from allied nations to Russian agents. Among other disclosures was the identity of an Israeli agent in Syria.

He also conveys information regarding his own immediate actions to the Russians, such as the bombing of Syrian chemical plants.
