Usually she'd be in it next month so you had to come back and go through the process all over again.

I could never flick through a magazine in a shop though.
I hated those newsagents that has a huge sign saying "NO BROWSING", as part of the quality control was checking out the contents. I was a Club collector so there I'd whip it off the top shelf, pay and get out as quickly as I could, but when checking out another title I'd always want to have a quick browse. In my younger days I'd be shaking like a leaf, but I soon realised that I was not the first and was not going to be the last.

My worst experience was when I picked up a copy of Fox based on the cover. It was sealed, so I couldn't have leafed through it anyway.

When I got home I was ready and rock hard for a wank over the cover girl... I opened the cover and there was page after page of fake-titted, tattooed skanks, and the cover girl was nowhere to be seen. I binned the mag, and had my tug over a Sophie Moone (Stella) in a good old copy of Club instead.

I agree with everyone about the disappointment of getting one that wasn't that good after going through that thrill of buying it.

Most shops I bought from were run by Chinese or Korean adults so it wasn't likely I would encounter them anywhere else I tended to go.

I was in University during my peak buying days and I lived in another town than the school was in. The magazines used to be delivered on Wednesdays and I had short classes that day so I would drop in on my way home.

I was a Club magazine fan (International and Confidential too). With 3 titles one came out each week except for the one week. I sometimes bought another title and was often let down (figuratively and physically). Most often I bought Swank and was mildly turned on with what I saw.

Every so often I go to porn shops to browse for stuff to look up later online. The place I like best is a hole in the wall in a good part of town. Usually no one is in there but one employee so if I think I can chat them up I go for it. There is always the "let me know if you need any help" line when entering but I know if it gets repeated a few minutes later I will reply.

The best are chubby girls. I'll hang out in the BBW section and wait for it to happen. The place doesn't carry a lot of Score Group stuff so I ask for that knowing we will be spending a minute browsing DVDs together. During the search I will put one or two aside that have sex on the cover so as we continue they are in plain view for them to see.

To this day I've had sex with 2 different girls this way.

Can't say it was a turn on, as a teenager it was a nerve racking experience. Would anyone recognise me or worse still would they refuse to sell me the magazine! Would I knock the whole top shelf over trying to grab the mag I wanted!
Only once could I say it was a turn on, when I used it as a pre requisite for an evening of lovemaking, when I purchased both a copy of playboy and playgirl and laid them out on bedside table for when a lady I was dating came round

Default Asian immigrant newstand

I liked to buy from Asian immigrants. No evil eye, no silent opprobrium, no ask for ID. Just sell magazine. Make dollar. Nice day, see you next time.

I bought my very first magazines when I was sixteen from a newsagent I'd been going to for sweets all my childhood, along with my beano and later smash hits subscriptions; the place where my parents still got their newspapers from. I would rather have gone anywhere else but they were the only sellers of newspapers and magazines in that village.

I remember being very nervous as I took the two magazines to the counter, a Knave and a Mayfair (wanted to judge for myself, chose Knave going forwards) and half expected the newsagent that I well knew to tell me to go away and that he would tell my parents.

Instead he took my money, gave me a copy of yesterday's Telegraph to conceal them in and told me that once I'd made it known to him which my preference was all I need do in future was approach the counter, ask for "the usual" and I would be given that magazine in a previous day's broadsheet with no questions ever asked.

It struck me only then that I had, while in that shop buying sweets or comics as a child, witnessed many adults approaching the counter asking for "the usual" and being given a newspaper (which I had always thought was what they were buying), and these were pillars of the community; teachers, churchwardens, friends of my parents, even my own father on a couple of occasions. (That last one was obvious when I thought about it - the first magazines I'd ever seen some years earlier were found in the back of an airing cupboard and dated within my lifetime).

That's a fantastic story, Penguin250k. I never had issues with newsagents, but I wished mine was like that.

I have babbled on in this thread previously and some would have read my stories in more detail, but over the years I had a mixed bag of reactions, from sneering to complete indifference.

I last bought a mag in 2010, a copy of Club International before the magazine went to pot. I quite liked the people behind the counter, a young Asian couple. The girl was always friendly and gave me a "have fun" look whenever I handed her my cash, while the guy was more than happy to offer under the counter stuff. As I was a specialist collector and knew what I wanted, I never took him up on the offer.

I grew up in a one-stoplight town in the Midwest. Somewhat conservative, and one of those "everybody knows everybody" places.

So, whenever Earl at the corner gas station managed to have a couple of new copies of Hustler or Penthouse under the counter, it was a BIG deal. The magazine might have been 5 dollars at that time; but if you slipped him a ten, it was "nudge nudge wink wink, I didn't see you in here".

So, when I finally visited a city big enough to have a legitimate adult bookstore, it was like Christmas morning. After I showed my ID, I just stood in the middle of the place, and tried to figure out where to start first. Not only were there Penthouse and Hustler, but back issues galore. Plus, they had a nice selection of "second shelf" magazines. I always liked Gallery and Genesis.

I also got turned on to the Paul Raymond mags. I liked the "European feel". They seemed more sophisticated, and weren't as explicit as American magazines.

With the digital age, finding a good adult store is a true rarity. The selection of paper magazines has gone way down, and it's more about selling toys, lotions, etc..

Some online mag dealers are pretty good and can be trusted; however, there are sure a lot of sellers who claim the product is "mint", and then it shows up and the pages are stuck together.

*sigh* I miss those days of adult stores with so many magazines that it took a couple of hours to browse everything.

I actually used to buy a LOT of them when I was in college. I had a really good job and had a good bit of money left over, so I went to this newsstand right up the street. tHEY even sold used books, so lots of classics were there. tHey had a huge porn section and I spent time browsing as the owners didnt seem to mind. They were an older asian couple that, apparently enjoyed the magazines them selves as I saw both the man and wife reading them from time to time. I would go about once a month and stock up on three or four new mags and a few used ones, then when I was thru with them, trade them in. Sometimes there was this older horse hung perv that would read them and let his dick stick out from under his shorts, but he was harmless. The lady mamager even commented on his dick to me one time. She was hard to understand, but I could tell she was fascinated by one that big, but even though I hinted I could take care of her, she smiled and said she was "ok".
