I thought I would share a few pictures of "The King", Arnold Palmer and a story.

One of the surgeons I work with went to Wake Forest just as Palmer did. The story he shared is that Palmer would get a group of people together outside of a building on campus and accept bets on whether or not he could hit a golf ball from a great distance away through a specific window. The bets would be placed, he'd tee it up and knock the glass out of the exact window he predicted nearly every single time.

Sharing a few golfing tips with Kate Upton.

In 2007, Wake Forest played Louisville in the Orange Bowl. Arnold Palmer represented his alma mater of Wake and Muhammad Ali represented his home town of Louisville both as Honorary Captains.

Arnold Palmer made golf cool especially when TV came along. Who could possibly know how many picked up the sticks because of him?

Arnold Palmer at the 1965 U.S. Open. Look up cool and you'll see this picture.

Those of us here in the 1980's who loved the children's ghost comedy show RENTAGHOST will remember Ann Emery, who sadly died aged 86 this week. She was the wife of Harold Meaker(Edward Brayshaw) who ran an agency called Rentaghost and he and her, Ethel Meaker were always getting in the way of the resident ghosts and usually coming off the worst. Michael Staniforth played a medieval jester called Mr Claypole and he would always call her 'Mistress Meaker' but sometimes play practical jokes on her and Harold. Sadly they didn't make it into the second series and were replaced by two nosey neighbours. I am not sure if did anything else but I do recall her once singing an old song called 'Tangerine' (possibly for a sequence in Rentaghost) but I am pretty sure I saw her turn up in an advert for Maryland Cookies. More information here. Oh yes and she was the half sister of British comedian, Dick Emery.
