Default Which "single malt whisky" do you prefer?

I realize that "single malt" is what connoisseurs choose so I hope to get some opinions from you about your favourites. I bought a limited edition a few years ago, Bruichladdish's "Octomore ed. 06.2" 58,2%. It was exceptional, so that must be my vote.

Could be any one of several depending on what I feel like at the time though getting hold of it presents a challenge in itself.

If I had to narrow it down...Ardbeg.

I always thought Laphroaig tasted like bleach until a Scot advised me to take it one third two thirds with vey cold water. Result absolute heaven.

I am also very fond of Glenmorangie, especially the port barrel one.

I think it's fair to say that the really big, peaty Islay malts like Laphroaig can be a bit of an acquired taste, especially if you're new to malt whisky.

As much as I love both, I'm not sure I'd ever recommend Laphroaig or Lagavulin (my favourite for many years) to a malt virgin as their first dram...
