I am a straight-line independent. IMHO the Democratic party is composed of a boatload of pussies who make no move whatsoever until they have assembled every scrap of demographic data available on the subject in question. They are obviously much more concerned with re-election than actually getting anything accomplished. The Republican party is a pack of insular, backward-looking, 'holier-than-thou' scumbags who want to insure that the world is safe for their affluent friends (and patrons) and pave the way for Christ's return.
The fix for this problem is actually fairly simple to achieve: (although, in practical reality this will NEVER happen) abolish ALL political parties.
This would have an immediate, obvious and devastating implications on both those currently in office and those thinking of running:
Without political parties there could be no party platforms.
Without platforms and the 'fall back' position they provide there would be:

No pre-scripted political agendas;

No authorized moral and ethical (I use these words almost in jest) positions;

No directly prescribed manner of inserting god into the political process;

No way to obfuscate; defer; demur; deflect; designate for further study; dissemble; take under advisement; "I'll get back to you on this..." (or any of the of other rhetorical tricks politicos employ) without it being obvious that he is disingenuous. Or worse.

No place to scuttle under and hide when asked a direct question in a public forum.

In short, politicians would be FORCED to actually express THEIR OWN opinions and conclusions, based on their wisdom, intellect, knowledge and ethical leanings.

It is much easier to spot ignorance; stupidity; religious fanaticism, avarice et. al when it has to stand up for itself.

I'd like to ask the party affiliation (or Independent affiliation, or third party leanings) of VEF members.

I will say that I am a registered Independent in the U.S. because I wanted the freedom to vote for any candidate I chose, but after high school, my third party of choice is the Libertarian Party. I never sympathized with the fundamentalists in the Republican Party, and some of the Democratic Party's issues (decriminalize drugs and abortion, pornography and prostitution, full employment, keeping the Earth clean and green where possible with proper legislation) appealed to me. But I was also in sympathy with Dave Mustaine and other "New Democrats" who had their own views on youth rights, foreign policy, and reducing bureaucracies.

It was David Bergland (L-CA) and Harry Browne (L-TN) in 1995-96 who really made me think that the solution was to combine the personal freedom views of younger Democrats, with greater economic liberty similar to Hong Kong or Switzerland. Not all Libertarian views appeal to me, but many still do, and I did not want to vote for Donald Trump (R) or Hillary Clinton (D) because I believed that younger Americans and third-party candidates are marginalized.

The only time I was ever "a little" supportive of Trump was in early 2020, when the coronavirus started to seriously affect the entire world, and I did not think that it was wise to change Presidents or turn to partisan politics in the middle of the pandemic. Trump's attention seemed to shift from his 2016 issues to facing the emergency, from telling factories to produce ventilators, to letting governors lock down their states if necessary. I also did not think that Jo Jorgenson (L) had a well-developed 2020 platform, and chose not to vote for her that year.

There is also a restaurant called El Trompo near where I live, not to be confused with "El Trumpo" who lost in 2020, and it is for some reason Mexican. I wonder if these are Hispanic Republicans, or just capitalists who want to appeal to Cincinnati GOP customers? Their mascot appear to wear a yellow hat-like appendage...
