I pretty much agree with everything estreeter said in his original post. If I had my way I'd ban political parties outright. This system just creates an "us against them" atmosphere in which very little constructive progress is made. I generally lean towards the right and being a patriotic Yank I value the freedom and protection afforded by our Constitution. Seeing it being attacked and picked apart sickens me and our current "leader" reminds me just a little too much of a certain over-enthusiastic German of 70 odd years ago.

I'd describe myself as a left leaning fence sitter which is why I have never voted for the same party in both houses of our parliament in any 1 election.
We had a 3rd party the Australian democrats in our 2 house system that was set-up to simply keep the bigger parties honest with what they tried to get legislated Curiously the Democrats were a left leaning / middle of the road party formed by a former Liberal politician in the 70s - the liberals were the employers party - closest thing we have to right wing party As they described themselves they were the first party in Australia who actually thought about the enviroment with regards to their policy but they werent obsessed by it like the greens. It was a balancing give and take act. Unfortunately personal ambition and divisions after 20+ years playing this buffer zone party led to their complete obliteration and now we're left with the 2 big parties and a handful of independents who hold the balance of power. Think i'll call in sick next election even if it is compulsory Politics can best be summed up by a previous State election We had a party called family first which was an off shoot of the employer party the liberals So the main opposition labour - the peoples party (LOL) - starting using slogans and got t-shirts printed that said 'put your family first' - fooled many voters into voting for the wrong party they loathed. Showed me all too well whats really at stake when we vote and it isnt our well being. Last edited by buttsie; December 11th, 2012 at 08:46 AM.. Reason: comment |

You're not cheated palo, in fact I did add ultra-red, pinko, capitalist-defying, card-carrying, socialist, atheist, big-mac regurgitating Commies to the poll before I started the thread , but then I would have had to add Tree Hugging, Greenie, Welfare Sponge, Greenpeace Activist also . That would have been going too far and caused me a lot of work in removing posts I disagree with ...... Now I work on the forum free of charge (community service ), I can't work for free too much as I'd have to start charging for my services being the greedy little capitalist pig I am

The future if the big corporations and alpha morons are ever defeated
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperative Some will see it as a form of socialism no doubt Most successful co-operatives are relatively small scale In Australia in recent decades we've seen building societies, credit unions and eventually community banks trying to counter the big banks who are corporate cunts of the highest order being the most profitable banks in the world at our expense. I'm socially just to the left of centre .I support healthcare and much of the welfare provisions as being an indispensable part of a civilised society.I accept that with welfare provision there will always be some who exploit it but in fact it's a very small proportion which don't justify withdrawing it.A safety net doesn't stop you taking risks, why should it?
But economically I'm slightly to the right. If the economy isn't working then there's no money for the social side.Which makes me a "one nation Tory" I do object to those at the top giving themselves huge bonuses at the same time as shedding jobs to cut costs! Good remuneration is fine but some packages are stupid. |
