I watched the classic Candy Striper the other day, the famous movie with the fisting. I really enjoyed it.
But are there people around really performing fisting?

I had an American copy of that movie but the fisting scene was edited out.
I tried to fist one of my ex girlfriends once without her knowledge but she caught me out.
I was downstairs doing my duty slipping a digit up her pink eye, where after a few minutes I'd introduce an extra finger. After the fourth, well up to the fourth finger was relatively easy but there is a big different when the thumb tries to make an entrance.
"What are you trying to do, put your hand in there?" she said uncomfortably.
I made my excuses and a hasty retreat. That was the once and probably the only attempt I'll make unless it is specifically asked for

Although I'm slim, I have abnormally long fingers.

I wish a girl would share her experience. It is apparently common practise amongst lesbians. Or is it a myth?

I had a gf a few years ago that couldn't get enough of it. She had had a couple of kids so it was not terribly difficult for me to get my big mitt in there. She had never done it prior to me (or at least that's what she told me) and, once we'd done it, she wanted it almost constantly. She came like she never had before (again, that's what she said). I do believe her as we also found out that she was a prolific squirter (she'd never done that before either).

I have tried it with several others since but have been unsuccessful. A woman may be able to fist another woman but, because of a guy's size, it won't work on a woman that hasn't had a few kids.
