I was about to post the same...

I don't care aboout the number of Thanks I've got, I only check them (where it says "User CP" up there) to see which latest posts of mine were of interest to other forum members.

"Thanks" are always an issue in some way... there are forum members who have got thousands of posts and received thousands (even tens of thousands) of thanks but never ever gave one to anybody; like "Thanks: 0 / Thanked xx,xxx times in x,xxx posts". I get it, they come here only to post their stuff and don't care about anything else; it would be worse if they're leeching and never click on the little button.

As usual, to each their own...

The time it takes to replace or rebuild

I think like most of us who havent been an Admin we probably dont quite grasp exactly whats occured - just the thanks given stats went down a lot
- though in % terms possibly not much

Tens of thousands of thanks can be given away in no time at all
20-30 a minute , 1200-1800 an hour and so on

I have no idea how much my stats changed by as i rarely pay them any attention


If we're talking real loss then think back to the cluster crash when the forum was down for 2 weeks and all posts & activity were lost for that period.

I recall that period very well because i'd just finished linking every set in a 200 post thread
Forgot to save it as text.....rebuilding....still to do

Before that the Model ID section which was totally temporary so those just posting in it
kept losing most of their posts and thanks everytime it was cleaned.


I've often had a sense of de ja vu going through threads i've previously trawled through and thanked but found no thanks.I just accept that the system with its 3rd party add-ons to the vbulletin base is never going to be perfect.


Look beyond the numbers


For mine the stats once their above 150 thanks received dont serve all that big a purpose
unless you become obsessed with them.Its a fools game paying attention to them as by natural attrition they will drop at intervals.

Its impossible to compare the member who posts 200 full movies , the member who posts 10,000 sample galleries or the member who thanks anything posted - they all play their part


A truly useful thing to do on vef would be to simply keep track of what you have already posted and revisit it every 12 months and do your own remedial maintenance rather than posting and forgeting....I suspect its this type of activity that makes members stand out from the rest
Might lead to Veteran status because very few do it.

Keeping a text file by date with the direct address is childs play

Revisiting old unseen material isnt unpleasant

I think saying and giving thanks is a sense of community, caring what your peers think, once you stop caring what other people think, is a step closer to being a Troll.

I don't really think its a matter of anyone being here just to collect Thanks. VEF provides a mechanism which automatically keeps track of Posts, Thanks, and Thanks Received counts for members, regardless if anyone cares or has any interest in viewing them. Since the counter and stats are there and will continue to count what's the harm in giving them a glance! Those members having no interest in their stats, that's fine and their prerogative ... but I would not necessarily consider a member to be "loony" for wishing to utilize the counter and keep track of his stats.
Actually, whose to say, and what/who could be considered more "loonier", those wishing to utilize the provided visible stats counter, or those choosing not to utilize/view (and intentionally ignore) something which is in plain sight and not requiring any extra steps or clicking to open it?
IMO, I think that the stats counter can be a useful tool (for those who choose) to keep track of their contributions and accomplishments ... and VEF must also think so for providing it.
Baseball/football players, golfers, bowlers, etc maintain stats (and are not considered "loony"), so why not a porn site member having stats?

I'm sure the stats served their purpose to lure people to VEF over other forums that werent offering them or the defunct good bad reputation scales button.

Thanks lost their relevance to certain sections on VEF when they became too easy to obtain

The real interaction between members would seem to be more important to many
than the numbers

It probably coincides with the level of interest in erotica taking a back seat
in members lives

I , like a lot of members use the thanks button to mark a post if I have downloaded what's in that post , when I want to say thanks I will send a pm telling them so , so losing thanks isn't important to me but I do agree with rotobott about the community spirit

Thanks serves to tell a contributing member that what he has posted is valued, if nothing else, and encourages them to upload more goodies.

I don't thank for every single thing I look at, but I pretty much always thank for a hot set, and for SURE if I grab even a pic or two from it that tickles my fancy.

I always thank in the "Babe of the Day" thread, for example, just because people often post pics of babes that I haven't tumbled to elsewhere and I have a fun time following them up and looking for more. I especially enjoy Spicoli's posts in that thread, he is always posting great vintage babes there and has led me to further enjoyment of more than one vintage hottie.

So click that thanks button.
