Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)

SPOILERS...
Pros...
- Best score of the franchise easily, builds tension very well without using the chi-chi-chi too much.
- I like the whole cast, even Vera. I get a genuine feel of friendship among most of them. Like Part 2 even the practical joker is likable & sympathetic.
- Chris is a good final girl, not as resourceful or strong as Ginny in 2 but still solid. At first it looks like she is going to be helpless & hysterical calling out for Rick but once she finds out he is dead, she strengthens up pretty quick. That being said... I liked her more in previous viewings then in this one, not sure why the change.
- Solid final chase.
- Indifferent to this Jason's facial make up but I loved the hunch back & oversized neck to him in this one.
- I appreciate how it connects directly from 2.
- I like the sets a good deal, felt like a lot of work went into making the house & the barn feel authentic & not cheap. (they built the house from scratch if you take a look in the Crystal Lake memories book)
- I liked the moment with the biker chick Fox exploring the barn with a child like awe, always reminds me of myself doing the same in my passed on Grandfather's barn/workshop/farm.

Cons/Nitpicks...
- Yes there is some forced 3D moments but they aren't too insufferable and aren't placed in scenes of tension thankfully.
- Film has a good number of mistakes with missing blood, 1st with Jason not bleeding out onto his new shirt from the hacked open shoulder he got at the end of 2/start of this. 2nd with Andy's blood not covering the majority of the hallway after his disemboweling, 3rd with Andy's blood not covering the Hammock before Debbie even had the chance to lay in it.
- Pamela attacking Chris is retarded for 2 reasons.
A.) If she is a physical Zombie, how is her head attached to her body again?
B.) She could not be a dream by Chris as there is no evidence in the film that she has ever even heard of the Voorhees family.
Only in-story explanation I could come up with was that it was Pamela's ghost.

I know..... not another sodding Bigfoot movie.

Early mockumentary about a research expedition setting off into the wilds to capture and tag a Bigfoot. They find it, but will they survive??

Heh, I liked this one.
Effective opening credits and post opening credit narration with a cool score.

Too Big to Fail (HBO TV Movie 2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1742683/

Stars: James Woods, John Heard, William Hurt. Paul Giamatti, Billy Crudup, Edward Asner, Topher Grace, Cynthia Nixon, Bill Pullman, Tony Shalhoub

Storyline (by IMDb):

A close look behind the scenes, between late March and mid-October, 2008: we follow Richard Fuld's (James Woods) benighted attempt to save Lehman Brothers; conversations among the Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson (William Hurt), the chair of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke (Paul Giamatti), and the president of the New York Fed Tim Geithner (Billy Crudup) as they seek a private solution for Lehman's; and, back-channel negotiations among Paulson, Warren Buffet (Edward Asner), investment bankers, a British regulator, and members of Congress as almost all work to save the U.S. economy. By the end, with the no-strings bailout arranged, modest confidence restored on Wall Street, and a meltdown averted, Paulson wonders if banks will lend.

A decent account about how close to the abyss the global economy was back then - but one of the film's flaws was focusing so much on the CEOs and power-brokers of Wall Street and Washington D.C., the ordinary citizens of Main Street felt overlooked.
Also the film appeared to make Hank Paulson the "hero" - when in reality there were no true heroes in the events shown in "Too Big to Fail".

Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter (1984)
SPOILERS...
Gonna say this up front, 4 I think was one of the last films in the series that I ever saw and it kinda fell flat to me, not bad but simply more of the same while most people claim it is a top 3 contender for best film.
This viewing (3rd or 4th viewing ever I think, first in at least 3 years) I enjoyed it a lot more.

Pros...
- Like 3, this one connects directly from the previous film & is better for it. The scenes of cops combing Higgin's Haven are effective and especially so is the moment when the last cop cars & the Helicopter fade into the distance & out of sight leaving Higgins alone in eerie darkness, haunting.
- This film makes alot better use of Shadow & lighting then 3 did.
- Trish (kimberly beck) is a great final girl, effectively surpassing Chris from 3 in my book this viewing. Her charging back into the basement with Machete in hand to desperately try & save Rob at the last minute was awesome. Love her blue outfit.
- General cast isn't quite as likable as 2 or 3 but still friendly enough, at first they seem extremely interchangeable & generic but slowly several of them solidify their identifies.

Cons & Nitpicks...
- Score is fine, but not nearly as good as 3's was.
- Jason despite being hidden in shadow for alot more of this film doesn't look quite as menacing as he did in 3. The mask & how it fits on his face doesn't look as good IMO.
- Tommy attempt to distract Jason is... bizarre & nonsensical, he is basically trying to do what Ginny did at the end of 2, except Ginny was imitating Jason's mother who he clearly worshiped what with her severed head at a alter. But Tommy is trying to imitate Jason himself as a child??? Saying "remember me?" that would certainly confuse Jason with him always having been mentally handicapped but still. I think the scene would have made more sense if Tommy had instead tried to pretend being a child "like" Jason and attempt to convince him that they were born the same or something.

Freehold (2017) aka Two Pigeons (original title)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5532370/

An arrogant cocky London Estate Agent does not realise that his flat has been invaded by an extremely skinny intruder with some very questionable personal hygiene habits, it gets grosser and grosser as the film goes by and when his girlfriend moves in the uninvited guest has even more fun.

At times you may cringe at what is going on in this disturbing black comedy but as the victim is an Estate Agent it's funny how little sympathy we feel for him.

Hellriser (2017)

An old style detective called Locke is assigned a new young female partner called Keyes... geddit
Locke is investigating a series of brutal ritual murders of young women. his new partner uncovers a connection to an inmate held in a local asylum now run by a mad doctor with Nazi family connections.
Does the patient or the Doctor hold the solution to the crimes???

Nothing spectacular, lots of cheesy fire effects but I liked it and there's plenty nude scenes to distract you if your mind starts to wander

Highly recommended if you can bear a movie that takes its time (which IMO is good to take in the atmosphere and beautiful shots).

perfect for the big screen (especially at a calm moment in the cinema)

Lacombe, Lucien (1974)

Trailer

France in June, 1944: Lucien Lacombe (Pierre Blaise) is a 17-year-old peasant boy who wants to join the Resistance. Not so much because he believes in the cause but as a means to carry weapons and exert authority. The leader of the local Resistance, a teacher, refuses to accept Lucien because he's too young. Once during curfew, Lucien is caught peeking at a party in the headquarters of the French Gestapo collaborators, the Carlingue. There he denounces the teacher, unaware of what he's done. The teacher is soon arrested and tortured. Realizing that he might be useful, the Carlingue recruit Lucien who's only too happy to boast with his position of power. But things become a little complicated when he falls in love with a Jewish girl.

A truly masterful film about naivety and the loss of innocence in the time of barbarism. It was written and directed by Louis Malle. The actor who portrayed Lucien Lacombe died in a car crash, only a year after the release of this film. He was 20 years old.

The way they blend the past movie into the present and the new wave of replicants was amazing
