Default The New York Times

Whenever the BBC are doing a hatchet job on president Trump ( frequently ) they always quote the new York Times to back up their claims and haul someone in with an American accent who possibly freelances for that paper to say it's true .

Now I've been lead to believe ......

The new York Times is nothing more than the US equivalent of our guardian newspaper .
As in nobody other than lefty luvvy darlings who of course want to do a hatchet job on Trump buy it

We've got members here from all over the US and A what do you think of the new York Times ?

Would you think twice about wiping your bottom with it like I would the UK guardian ?

I am sick of hearing new York Times , new York Times ad infinitum in a bad way about Trump on the craphouse BBC .

It's definitely over on the left. Since we have freedom of the press in the USA, I really don't care, they can print what they want. Better than those tabloids that print articles about aliens kidnapping babies and other tripe.

The New York Times is still among the most respected, and prestigious newspapers in the world. Donald Trump hates the Times, and constantly disparages it because they, among many other news outlets, won't let his bullshit go unchallenged.

Buy the New York Post instead Chris - might be more to your liking (tabloid once owned by Murdoch). Besides, I have a couple of friends who work on it so it'll keep them in business.

actually see the New York Times as in establishment left publication as opposed to an actual left publication. A lot of lefties I talk to tend to not like the times because people tend to cast them as a left-leaning newspaper in they don't think that casting is undeserved

When you say hatchet job, I presume you mean telling the truth about a dangerous moron.

No, it really isn't. I understand why it may appear that way from a standpoint of many Americans - that is a testament to how much "Conservatives" have moved the Overton window to the right over the last fifty years, to the point where Richard Nixon or Ronald Reagan would be too radically leftist for today's Democratic Party, given, for instance, their stance on healthcare or immigration.

The NYT is an upholder of the status quo, the maintenance of the current order of things - an inherently conservative worldview. The NYT is, to a certain degree, socially liberal, but on the meat and bones issues, pro war, pro empire and pro corporate capitalism. So are CNN, MSNBC and other seemingly "leftist" mass media corporations in the US. The Guardian takes up a similar role in the UK, as does Le Monde in France, or Der Spiegel in Germany.

What the NYT can definitely be called is the American paper of record. Foreign journalists read it (and usually the Washington Post too, given that most foreign desks are stationed in Washington and New York), and many of them lazily regurgitate and plagiarize its opinion pages for their own papers back home, rather than doing the legwork of developing a network of sources and an actual opinion of their own.

No media is ever perfect and without bias, so every media diet should include more than just one newspaper or TV channel.
