Search function problems

I am trying to find posts of the UK magazine "Men Only" but I can't get the search function to find it.

I am restricting the search to titles only and entering "Men Only" but it finds nothing, despite the fact that there are many threads for this mag with the name in the title.

What's going wrong?

A good question. The search function on this version of vB has always been weird. If you leave the quotation marks off, you will get some results, but it will just search for 'men' because the word 'only' is not used because it is 'too common' whatever that means. Presumably, if you include a word that is too common within your quote, it throws up a nul.

Worth an experiment in the test forum maybe?

The forum search software does not recognize anything in quotes; you can only search keywords. I tried men only but the software does not search only because it is too common a word. So the results show every title with men. This issue has been raised before but there's nothing we can do about it.

Have you tried doing a site specific search on Google for your terms?

In the Google search box enter the following without the brackets:

[site:vintage-erotica-forum.com "men only"]

Question really should be , what are you trying to find?

There are magazine index listings

Anyone trying to search all of vef at once - forget it
- unless the search terms are rare
- otherwise section by section is better

Magazine sites - slightly outdated given men only has been divided

This won't give very interesting results since the "Magazine Scans" section is members-only and thus not accessible for search engine robots.

I am aware of that. I created two magazine indexes myself (Rodox and Lovebirds), but there is no magazine index of Men Only, unfortunately.

I was trying to find out if a particular issue had been posted before I go to the trouble of scanning and posting it.

this link directs You further down that thread to post 7 "PRP mags up to 1997" section post by nopar king

here You find links to several publications and Men Only magazine catagorisered by decades '70's, '80's, '90's etc:

Men Only 70s

Men Only 80s

Men Only 90-97

note: the "Men Only unidentified issues" does not work , this thread may have been removed for one reason or another

when the links are followed, You then can use the "Search this Thread "option in the middle blue coloured bar provided on top of the section page:

fill in the volume mumber and issue number or Year for searching if the issue has already scanned or not!

example:

volume 46: type in 46, press go .. and...

posts with 46 in title and/or in the text will be shown:

etc.

of course this will only work if the poster has had provided the numbers

then only a search through the thread(s) by Yourself remains....

and apologies: i have only limited knowledge in making screenshots

I have found, through trial and error, that searching for "Paul Raymond Men Only" (don't use quotes) will bring up a thread that seems to include the major Men Only threads.
