Do you think your boss would realise The Boss was in the area and put 2 and 2 together?

If I were your boss, I'd work it out, but then again if I were your boss, I'd allow you to re-roster given your special affection.

Unbelievable! She had the chance to do something good with her life, and now she's blaming them for when her life goes wrong!

If it's one thing that life's taught me it's that never underestimate the human capacity for GREED!

See, that's when I'd love to be a judge, I'd just sit up there and ridicule the lottery company, not the young girl, get her hopes up and then rule against her

Thumbs down

Several days ago I tried a new strategy to try to stop the phone telemarketers from calling me 3 times a day. In the past I would try to explain that I don't give money to charities and my mom is deceased so don't call anymore. That didn't work. They still call. Then I just would hang up the phone right away. That did not work. They still call. My latest strategy was to not hang up the phone, but put it down gently on a table near me and let them say :Hello, hello, is anyone there, anyone there and then I hear the dial tone. This has also not worked. They still call. You have to figure that maybe 50% of all the money they get in contributions has to be used for junk mail and the cost for making all these useless phone calls. Such a waste!!

TM, surely caller ID is available in the metropolis that is Chicago. I have a set of wireless receivers on my land line, that not only display the number but announces the ID of the caller out loud in a female robotic voice. If I do not recognize the number or the caller, I don't answer. If it's important, they can leave a message.

BTW, these calls are dialed by computer. The person on the other end simply talks to whomever answers first. Telling them not to call does not get you taken off the list, as you have discovered.

We get the same issue here in the UK. You can register with a service that is supposed to stop these calls but its worse than useless. They have very little power and only work with UK based companies. Now most of these telemarketers are based offshore so they dont fall under the rules. They also happily pay any weak ass fine because its pocket change to them. I avoid them all by simply not having a landline as I have no need for one with cable broadband. I also have an app on my phone whereby anyone not on my contact list cannot get through to me, but it registers their number on my blocked list. That way I can easily Google the number to see who it was. If the number is someone I want to talk too I can simply call them and add the number to my contacts for the future.

I now use an answering machine all the time on my home landline. The unwanted calls have become worse recently. Aside from the recorded messages, it will be someone claiming to be from Microsoft who needs me to check my computer, my ISP, the tax office, etc, it never ends. And they seem to know who I am. The UK telephone preference service is next to useless. Caller ID and call-back are normally a complete waste of time, as these people withold their numbers, use bogus spoof numbers or are overseas.

I no longer have the patience to tell cold callers to fuck off, so I just don't bother with them. Really, its time the phone companies like BT put a stop to this, as they know perfectly well who these people are and where they are calling from.

Absolutely CB

BT have allowed this to happen - to their own detriment as the concept of a landline is all but dead. People are fed up with it, are going entirely mobile and excluding themselves from directories.

This also has a serious, dangerous side. In my last job we often needed to contact people urgently - but either there was no way to access their number or they did not pick up as our number did not belong to someone they knew personally. It was quite worrying at times.

The fines just need to be bigger. A £10K fine is pocket change to these people so they continue to do it as its simply worth paying the fine and carrying on. The law needs to change so that the fines are £100K and more and those behind it are jailed. Especially for those companies continually calling people who have asked to be removed from their lists. The problem is because it doesn't affect the Govt or MP's they simply don't give a shit about the common person being abused and harassed.
