Superstitious much ?
Wasn't intending to post any more discussion threads as i figured i`d put up quite enough, but having received my third pm now requesting otherwise i have relented. Mostly because if i didn't i might get a fourth, and as we know that`s a hell of an unlucky number (Don`t ask me why though ?)
Still 900 billion believing Chinese can't be wrong ? , well except for the thing about eating pets obviously . Mind you that numbers not as bad as the one between 12 and 14 , erm so they tell me Though a truly weird superstition i heard was that you should always make the sign of the cross on a new loaf of bread before slicing it , something about it being considered the body of Christ ?.Although since most loafs come pre-sliced the lord`s son (Who is also his own father) must be getting pretty pissed off by now at the constant disrespect being shown, and God only knows what he thinks of those crustless ones So are you superstitious , if so what about ? "Just touch me Clover for luck , then give us a shout "

I'm not superstitious in any way but oddly enough not killing spiders is on your list. I will not kill a spider but for a more practical reason, they keep the fly population down.
Let's hear it for our 8 legged buddies. I'm still hoping I'll be bitten by a radioactive one. And a Billion Chinese could be wrong about many other things as well as their cruelty towards animals. We will never know though as the vast majority have no opportunity to get any information on which to base an opinion on. |

Spider here too. Maybe It`s subconscious evolutionary respect, with VEF-terms:
If a man is a lurking newbie with one warning, 1 post and no friends, then spider is a some kind of Super-Veteranmember with 500 000 posts and everybody wants to be a friend with him/her/it. Spiders will definitely walk the earth also then, when human race has died on extinction, greasy food or have moved somewhere else. I also have killed spiders but I was at Phobos then: I had a black cat years ago, he crossed my path so often that I became suspicious about being superstitious, and that cat. Or maybe my bad luck is just stuck somewhere. Maybe I left it on Phobos.

I am not keen on treble recurring sixes, so much so that I cover the odometer on my motorbike if the tally is getting past 66,500. Shouldn't use elastaplast because the gum is a bastard to scrape off, or was I just unlucky?
I don't like crossing on the stairs. I do not walk under ladders, but this is a health and safety issue. Black cats are fine. I love all cats: cats are man's best freeloading, food blagging, mischievous and self-serving friend. Also they keep rats and mice in their place. No such thing as an unlucky cat for me. |

I like to think that I'm not superstitious, but I do try to avoid walking under ladders (my vote in the poll), spilling salt, etc. But I file this under "why push my luck"? However, I have to admit, when Friday the 13th rolls around I do have that "uh-oh" moment.

I believe in luck which is sort of what a superstition is , so i do try and avoid doing the traditionally unlucky things like ladders and such .Think all those things are less to do with avoiding trouble though and more to do with reassuring ourselves ,no bad thing in these times.

Don't believe in them. I walk under ladders on purpose and smash mirrors.

Got a grip!
Used to be quite superstitious but I've dropped all that crap now, from religion to touching wood, thank f**k. There's plenty to keep me occupied without all that bollocks.
Agree with scoundrel about the cats - you've got to appreciate their hedonistic lifestyles. Just wish they weren't tearing the arse out of the bird population. Last edited by Farowt; May 8th, 2009 at 01:28 AM.. |
