Aww man. Sorry to hear. I remember him and his work from the Chappelle show. Great story teller. Here he is talking about Prince's reaction to the skit he did on the Chappelle's Show. Hard to believe they are both gone....

Default Joe Harris 1928-2017

I missed any announcements that came out earlier, this appeared in my local paper today, entitled:

Illustrator Designed Underdog

Quote:
In the late 1950s he created a floppy-eared white cartoon rabbit to sell Trix, a fruit-flavored, multicolored version of General Mills’s more popular Kix. He also drew a storyboard and wrote ad copy, including “Silly rabbit! Trix are for kids,” words that became synonymous with the cereal.
Quote:
Mr. Harris drew storyboards and designed characters like King Leonardo, Klondike Kat and Tennessee Tuxedo.

The best known of these characters was Underdog, who was transformed from a canine version of a shoeshiner into a superhero, usually when the reporter Sweet Polly Purebred was threatened by villains, including the evil scientist Simon Bar Sinister and the natty wolf gangster Riff Raff. Mr. Harris drew Underdog as an unlikely hero, a noodle-armed dog engulfed in a baggy red suit and blue cape.

I watched David Letterman just about every night he was on since he first started in 1982.

I used to love it when Dave's mom was on. She first got popular when Dave sent her to Norway to cover the 1994 Winter Olympics. She seemed to be a very kind and gentle woman. Anytime she was on and Dave was up to his usual goofing around and he would ask her some sort of ridiculous question, she always responded with that very gentle, "Yes David" or "No David".

My favorite was just before every Thanksgiving Dave would have her on from her actual kitchen in Indianapolis. Dave would recount that every year his mom would make these delicious pies when he was growing up. He would make a game out of it and try to guess which kind of pies she had made this year. The segment would wrap up with something silly like Dave asking what's in her refrigerator and she would open the door to show it was full of Colt 45 Malt Liquors or something stupid like that. Then he would ask her what her plans were for Thanksgiving and she would say something like they were going to the dog track and start fist fights or whatever the show's writers had written for her to say. She was a very good sport.

I lost my grandmother in 1990 and I used to like the think that Dave's mom was my surrogate grandmother. She was so sweet. I know Dave loved her very much and she was so proud of him.

A bit of a surprise to read J Geils had died, but he wasn't the lead singer, that was Peter Wolf. I remember seeing the video for Centrefold and just sitting there open-mouthed as these hot girls danced about in their underwear-some were real Playboy girls. Either way it was a pleasant experience being a teen around those days.

Default Toby Smith October 29, 1970 - April 12, 2017

The news was broken on the Jamiroquai fan site Funkin on Wednesday. “It is with great sadness to hear and relay the news that original Jamiroquai keyboard player Toby Smith died on 11th April 2017,” the statement read.

Smith served as both the keyboard player and co-songwriter for Jamiroquai from 1992 until 2002, contributing to the groups early hits and albums, up to and including the release of “A Funk Odyssey” in 2001. He left during the band’s Funk Odyssey tour due to family commitments.
