Fist Fight - 2017
Well I don't remember XXx 2 very well butr yeah, I'd say the 3rd one's worse. I'm a big Ice Cube fan so it must help to appreciate the 2005 movie, I guess.
Which brings us to : On the last day before summer vacation at a rough-and-tumble high school, mild-mannered teacher Andy Campbell (Charlie Day) accidentally causes his fearsome colleague Ron Strickland (Ice Cube) to be fired. When Strickland then challenges him to a fist fight after school, Campbell must find a way to avoid a vicious beating. Well that is definitely not my favorite Cube movie neither the best american comedy I've seen recently but it's fast-paced and has it's moments even if's that's not often hilarious. Watchable. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3401882/

Another film I saw on Netflix yesterday is Hacksaw Ridge starring Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn and others. It was directed by Mel Gibson. It tells the true story of combat medic Desmond Doss who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by U.S. president Harry Truman for his acts of heroism in the face of battle as a combat medic during the Battle of Okinawa, one of the bloodiest battles of World War 2. Doss was a 7th day Adventist and refused to train on and even carry a weapon, yet he managed to save the lives of over 75 men on the battlefield at Okinawa over a several week period. The battle scenes are very realistic similar to scenes seen in the film Saving Private Ryan. When men get shot or hit with grenades or mortars, much blood is seen and limbs are blown off. There are scenes showing the Japanese getting burned to death by Americans firing at them with flame throwers. There is a surprise at the end of the film when the credits are being shown. This film is very well acted, produced and directed. |

All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records
2015 Directed By Colin Hanks. A Fascinating Documentary About Tower Records. Established in 1960, Tower Records was once a retail powerhouse with two hundred stores in thirty countries on five continents. From humble beginnings in a small-town drugstore, Tower Records eventually became the heart and soul of the music world, and a powerful force in the music industry. In 1999, Tower Records made one billion dollars. In 2006, the company filed for bankruptcy. I found this Documentary funny, and sad at the same time, regarding how the music business, was heading with Illegal Downloading, The advent of the compact disc, and how Tower records adapted to the ever growing changes within the ways that people buy music. Contributions From Dave Grohl, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Cornell, David Geffen. Last edited by mrcat; May 22nd, 2017 at 08:57 AM.. |

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) - 2nd viewing ever, 1st was probably almost 15 years ago. Was not a fan that viewing, liked it notably more this time. Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) - Honestly this is one of those occasions I like the remake more then the original. - Lawrence Fishburne is really damn smooth & cool in this role. - The snowed in setting adds to the feel of isolation & mood especially in the final showdown in the woods. Rogue One - A Star Wars Story (2016) - 3rd viewing, love this film. |

The Lovers
In The Lovers husband and wife Debra Winger as Mary and Tracy Letts as Michael have basically become roommates sharing the same bed. They are both hiding lovers Aidan Gillen as Robert and Melora Walters as Lucy and cant bring themselves to say it's over let's move on with our lives, and right when it feels like the date is set to say let's move on suddenly the rediscover each other and cant wait to hit the sheets over and over again. All of the leads are great, and the story plays out in funny and moving ways. I mainly had a problem with the ending I know time passes in one's life and people say i want it all,and im going to have it all and hey let's keep everyone happy, but the situation that is set up in no way would work with the mindset of a couple of the characters in the film Scale of 1-10 an 8 Alien: Covenant 10 years after the events in the film Prometheus A spaceship named The Covenant on a colonization mission course is altered by an unforseen occurence and a decision is made to venture to a planet that seems habitable and the If it sounds to good to be true rule is skipped and it leads to all types of horror. Ok the good:I enjoyed the cast, the alien creatures ,and some truly horrifying and bloody moments, the film looks incredible. Michael Fassbender is terrific as David 8 and Walter two synthetic androids. The bad and annoying: Sure i watched the Elizabeth Shaw clip on Youtube but i kept thinking,ok this is the moment when the characters will ask questions and demand answers.....but it never really happens we get a comment here and there. And to completely bypass something with a 2 minute scene was very annoying. Also some moments were blatantly predictable There were interesting moments coupled with the good things i found in the film, and i know the creators and producers of the film want the story to go on,but that doesnt and shouldnt mean things brought up in the last film should be further pushed to the side. I hear the next film will be fast tracked so within a year maybe a more all around solid film will be produced. Scale of 1-10 a 7˝ Everything, Everything This film is definitely for the the young adult crowd, because there were multiple squeals of delight coming from the young members in the audience for this story of 18 year old Maddy suffers from a disease that prevents her from leaving her home and the young man next door Olly who falls for her The film has it's charming moments and i did find myself rooting for the star crossed lovers, and the film definitely had some inventive turns especially with the text messaging sequences. The two leads Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson do a fine job There is a twist that occurs in the film that i couldnt get on board with. And it's because im the type of person that embraces life more after the passing of a friend or loved one and i definitely encourage a friend or family to do the same instead of fearing what life may bring. This would make for a good rental but im sure teenagers will say this film is a must see. Scale of 1-10 a 6˝ |

1898. Los Últimos De Filipinas
1898. Los Últimos De Filipinas
This is a great Spanish Film which was made last year , in 2016 with a big-budget take on the tragic, traumatic last stand of the Empire, played out in the jungles of the Philippines. In 1898, after four centuries of empire, Spain surrendered the last of its colonies. For six months following the surrender, a group of Spanish soldiers posted to a remote village in the Philippines fought on anyway, knowing — or preferring to know — nothing about it. Their tragic, heroic and absurd story, one which has left Vietnam-size scars on the Spanish psyche, is the focus of Salvador Calvo’s feature debut, 1898, Our Last Men in the Philippines. Featuring a superb cast, striking visuals and a skillful management of a range of stereotypes and cliches that it makes no attempt to transcend, 1898 Following a massacre in the remote Philippine jungle village of El Baler, Lieutenant Martin Cerezo (Luis Tosar), under the orders of Captain Enrique de las Morenas (Eduard Fernandez, having a high-profile year following Smoke and Mirrors) — Morenas incredibly brings his dog on the mission — are sent out to try and reclaim the territory for Spain. They’re accompanied by about fifty youngsters, mostly inexperienced in life and war, and mostly dramatically redundant, apart from young wannabe artist Carlos (Spanish TV face Alvaro Cervantes). They are met on arrival by Sergeant Jimeno (Javier Gutierrez, Marshland), an embittered, sadistic hangover from the massacre, and a missionary with an opium addiction, Brother Carmelo (Karra Elejalde, Spanish Affair). sounds so-so , but I really enjoyed this film ( I do love a good War Film ) |

Neon Maniacs - 1986
After surviving an attack by gruesome, bloodthirsty monsters that dwell beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, a San Francisco teen recruits her boyfriend and best friend to mount a strike and wipe out the hideous Neon Maniacs once and for all. Haven't seen it for probably 30 years. Neon Maniacs remains the weird & cool cheesy horror film it was back then. Bad actors (the girls are hot though), stupid dialogues & situations but the SFX are alright and the movie is fun to watch. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127045/

I... comme Icare (1979)
Trailer The plot is based on the Kennedy assassination and the subsequent investigation. Marc Jarry (Gabriel Cattand), the president of a fictitious state, is assassinated before he can be inaugurated for a second six-year term. Henri Volney (Yves Montand), state attorney and member of the commission charged with the investigation (based on the Warren Commission), disagrees with the commission's final conclusion that supports the lone gunman theory. His own investigation gets him on the track of a deep state conspiracy. The 70s are famous for their political thrillers about conspiracies and they spawned the best movies in that genre. I as in Icarus is one of the finest examples. Vintage erotica fans might find it interesting that French porn legend Brigitte Lahaie appears in a small role as one of the witnesses of the assassination. |
