mine is a variation of subsilentio, which is Latin for "not named" or, more appropriately, "anonymous". Of course, someone had already poached the name, both ways, so I added 55. Why? My birthyear.

Mine is named after a red giant star which was called the "Garnet Star" by astronomer William Herschel, because of its deep red colour.
Er...that's it. |

Mine comes from a headline I saw in a local newspaper about a fella who boasted that he'd had sex with 27 cows (but was later found to be mad and had in fact only had it off with two)

my nickname
when I started using the internet I wanted to use 'bilbo baggins' as a nickname but on most sites it was already taken - in the Hobbit bilbo is referred to as the master burglar - i think I misremembered this as masterthief, and hence the name - that's also why my avatar is bilbo from the lord of the rings film.

It used to be on the opening credits of Call My Bluff (in the Robert Robinson days). God knows why but I once dreamed that an American called Mr Ploat sued the BBC for copyright or similar and I thought this was just about the most pathetic dream to have that I took the name.
