What a great day's play on the opening day of the series. Especially if one is an Aussie. Today we will see how good or bad 260 really is.

One thing I want to do before I die is to watch an Ashes series in Oz.
At 220-5, the game is pretty even. If England get a couple of early wickets with the new ball, 260 could be a good score. Fingers crossed!

Day three should give a clue to how this game will go. Hussey and Haddin have manned the trenches and dug the Aussies out of a large hole. Early walks back to the pavillion, for these two, should see England in with a fighting chance.

Only the second day of the series and already we have a cracker. An hour to go for day three. Don't know if my ticker can handle much more.

Have Hussey and Haddin put the first test beyond England's reach? We will need to bat for a couple of days to avoid going 1-0 down.
Day three to the wounded beast. |

Again we see Englands inability to break partnerships costing us dearly.
This seems to happen to often. |

They call it "test cricket" for a reason. England probably cannot win from here; there are only 2 days left. The first priority is to hold the line and save this game. But more than that, they need to make a statement now, bat well all the way down (Australia didn't do that) and give Australia one or two uncomfortable sessions at the end, to spell out the point that Hussey and Haddin did the hard work and the rest were not so good. Do this, and the psychological balance of power will not be all Australia's way. It is a long series and this is an important thing to get done.

Nice post Scoundrel. What I saw of day three, I also thought England were a bit unlucky in the first session especially Anderson who's bowling was very disciplined. As soon as Hussey had that decision reversed you'd know he'd get a big score lol. Can't say I'm a fan of these 3 referral business but as you say; that's cricket. Good luck England!!
