He is known through the cricketing world as "Bumble" due to the similarity between his facial profile and "Bumblies", characters of Michael Bentine's children's television programmes, apparently.

Mervyn Hughes moustache, would frighten most sane people.

As a South African, I can happily say that I am enjoying watching our boys whip Aussie hide. Straussy, KP, Trotty, Matt Prior... Hehe.

Seriously, I think both SA and India are better test sides at the moment, but I agree with some previous posters that an Ashes series always creates excitement. I think England clearly have the edge in terms of talent, and their performances in the last two matches has given them something that they have not had over the Aussies for years - a clear psychological advantage.

All that remains is for them to do what the Aussies would do is the boot were on the other foot - retain their focus, keep the pedal firmly floored and sock it to them. If they do this and twist the knife further, they can continue to inflict the sort of crushing blows that can cause major trauma.

And by golly would I like to see Ricky Ponting in particular put under the boot - before he is given it by the Aussie selectors.

Apparently Australians had one piece of good news-Stuart Broad going home, but then Tremlett will be let loose on them so enjoy it while you can. I was lucky enough to go to the MCG in Melbourne-we couldn't go near the pitch as they were setting up for a Paul McCartney concert but we were allowed into the main members room and got a good view of it nevertheless.

Ian Botham v Greg Chappell-now that is a fight I would like to see-get em in a ring the Sir against the commoner and see what happens-my money would be on Botham in a 3 rouind knockout!
It'll be good to see Tremlett back. But given his injury problems, I'm not sure that he can do the job at the moment

How ever the next tour match will give us an indication if he can.

I don't know if Greg Chappell and Ian Botham have any issues with each other. Ian Chappell and Ian Botham on the other hand...

The battle of the Ians.

You would like to think he passed some reasonably tough fitness checks before being included in this tour. We have toured too many times in the past with crocked or half-fit players as virtual passengers and a squad of only 16-17 players cannot carry passengers. Assuming he is 100% fit Tremlett seems the front runner; I am not quite convinced that he should be. Bresnan is in the frame as well as is fellow Yorkshireman Ajmal Shazhad (he's from Huddersfield I'll have you know), who wasn't even part of the official tour squad but is available because he happens to be in Oz on some player development program. They're going to play in the state game at the MCG against Victoria and it's logical to suppose that whoever shows the best form is the likeliest candidate. That being said, Tremlett is marginally more experienced than the others and did show promise before he was injured. He's a very tall man as well, just like Stuart Broad, though I don't think his pace is as fast as Broad, who is a bit of a handful when he gets his blood up.

I hope whoever gets the nod surprises me and delivers a fine performance; however none of these three would get my nod if Graham Onions was fit.

From what I've heard it's more the big 'fat' Merve Hughes although I wouldn't want to relay that in person.....

I'm sure he could still strangle folk with his moustache if he still has it....(Poirot would be jealous)

Good to see England having a grip and taking the fight to Oz without the trademark weaknesses. It seems as though we're finally amassing a decent squad where even if individual players are going through a rough patch the whole team doesn't deflate as a result.

You've hit the nail on the head there. England have been notorious for falling into a screaming heap after putting forward a decent start. It does make for entertaining cricket when you guys play a full game.

Ok so Botham can beat any of our cricketers....so can we substitute some rugby league players to have a crack at Beefy?

Justin Langer reached Black belt in Zen Do Kai, so he is probably our go to guy for the fight with Botham. Botham would be a good brawler, good in close with his strength, and deadly with a broken beer bottle, so Justin would need to keep upright and outside Botham's reach.

I could have guessed he was a Yorkshireman from his name :-)
A fine bowler, watched him at Trent Bridge in the last county match.Unfortunately Notts. lost. Annoying as Broad and Swann were watching from the pavillion but not allowed by ECB to play.
