The Firefox and Extension Thread
This thread is to help those that may not be the most competent or savvy computer users be more efficient with their computers and the software that runs on it...
First off, if you do not have Firefox, you should have a damn good excuse as to why you're not using it...I have put together some helpful hints and tips about Firefox on AF, it is a bit dated, but you can read it here... This thread is meant to cover and explain some of the means by which I grab my VEF goodies, and hopefully they will help others...I won't limit it to downloading however, Firefox is a powerful tool and offers vast functionality...If you come across or know of an extension to help other VEF members, please do share..! Extension Format
To make things more consistent throughout the thread, I have devised some preformatted BBCode that you can use...Should you choose to submit an extension, just copy, paste, and fill in the blanks..! Also, for clarification, these extensions are certified to run on Firefox version 3, if your extension is NOT FF3 compatible, please do mention it..!
Code:

Linkification
Extension: Linkification
Version: 1.3.5 Author/Extension Homepage: http://yellow5.us/firefox/linkification/ Mozilla Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/190 Description: Linkification converts text links into genuine, clickable links. Notes: Occasionally, if you have a spanning archive, there will be multiple links...By putting those links in [ code] boxes, you can copy and paste them into your download manager...BUT, if you'd rather just click and go, this extension will turn ANY text link into a clickable one...For instance, if someone leaves the http: off of a link eg: rapidshare.com/432421/file1.rar Linkification will automatically convert that into http://rapidshare.com/432421/file1.rar and allow you to click it...If someone puts hxxp://rapidshare.com/432421/file1.rar, it will convert it to http://rapidshare.com/432421/file1.rar ... Code:
http://www.rapidshare.com/432421/file1.rar |

I thought I'd update this a bit as there are a few key wrinkles for users who want to stay current as image hosts change their sites.
Version: 1.5.9 Author/Extension Homepage: imagehost-grabber.com Direct Extension Download Link:imagegrabber-1.5.9.xpi I'm sure AYHJA already knows this, but I figured I'd add these two key points for ImageHost Grabber users. Less Current Version Now Available via Mozilla The extension is now available on the Mozilla page but is still considered experimental. Mozilla Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12249 You'll note that the current version on Mozilla.org is only 1.55, while the version at imagehost-grabber.com is 1.59. It pays to go to the source. Updated hostf.xml Available at Author's Site THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART! The author seems to be updating the xml file for the various hosts more often than the extension itself. The current hostf.xml was updated in October, while the 1.59 version was updated in July. I suspect that removing and then reinstalling the extension will get you the updated hostf.xml, but for those who would rather just download the new xml file, you can find the link at imagehost-grabber.com/. The direct link is hostf.xml. Just right click on the link, select save file as, and then save to the appropriate folder in your Firefox Extensions folder (you'll probably need to use the Windows search function for this) which will be located in: C:\Documents and Settings\***\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\***.default\extensio ns\{***} You'll have far fewer difficulties if your extension version and your hostf.xml are updated. Don't count on Mozilla.org if you want to remain current. |

Linky
Extension: Linky
Version: 2.7.1 Author/Extension Homepage: http://gemal.dk/mozilla/linky.html Mozilla Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/425 Description: Linky will increase your power to handle links. It will let you open or download all or selected links, image links and even web addresses found in the text in separate or different tabs or windows. Notes: Yet another way to work with links to make things easier for you..If the forum, for example, has shortened links, you can select those links and use linky to copy the links to your clipboard, open them in new tabs, you name it... |

On vB, you can just view single posts to eliminate that problem...That's what I do anyway so I can sort through what's what...
