Kevin here. You know that old saying: If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one around does it make a sound?

If a one mile wide asteroid hits somewhere deep in the outback, will anyone hear it. Actually a lot of aborigines might hear it , but it would be too late, because by then they would all be blasted to dust with all the nasty spiders, flies, lizards, salt-water crocs, roos, bilbies and all the other critters and any other various visitors, such as tourists, or survivalists, miners, et al.!

I suspect the whole world would experience its after-effects--cf. the Tunguska event, and it was nowhere near the size you're suggesting.

Kevin says that an asteroid strike in the Australian outback would make a giant crater, but unlike the Tungusta event which was actually an air burst of either a meteor or something else such as a comet which destroyed thousands of acres of trees and other stuff, a stony metallic meteor or asteroid coming in at about 60 miles per second would blast out a crater possibly 100 miles wide and blast into the atmosphere trillions of tons of rock and ash. Every thing in Australia would probably die first and the rest of the world could see a nuclear winter experienced by the dinosaurs 63,000,000 years ago......unless whe
get saved by the space aliens who use an anti-gravity beam to deflect the asteroid. Then they would land and start making plans on how to conquer us and eat us. Which would you prefer? The world destroyed by an asteroid or nasty super aliens!

Considering the current state of world affairs, I guess we won't need any help from outer space to achieve that.

Don't give the tourists tips we need the Hospital and Ambulance staff employed

It was only a Huntsman, but I had one in a Bomber Jacket years ago
