Congratulations to Chris Froome on winning the Vuelta and doing the Double.
Have to admit I'm a fan and the fact that he isn't "cool" like Wiggo is a big plus in my book. The Vuelta appears to be designed for masochists, so many near-vertical ascents just isn't funny. ITV4's highlights were good as usual and I've learned to filter out the constant "Froome-is-boring-vibe" from Imlach, who is subtly put in his place by David Millar every time he appears on screen. I think Froome is probably finished with the Vuelta and will concentrate on a fifth "Tour de France" and then the Giro d'Italia. Great times for British cycling

Froome is without doubt the best rider out there at the moment. I admire his humble approach to interviews, the fact that he thanked the British Public for their support, and showed such appreciation of the Spanish crowds. He could have sown up the points jersey on the last summit, but he allowed his team mate to cross first, to me it shows what a great sportsman, champion and competitor he is by the effort he and Team Sky put in to win the points jersey, three out of five titles in a grand tour! Third in the fourth and too old for the last! Incredible!
I was in the UK for a day last week and tried to watch the Tour of Britain. Good God! The commentators and studio interviewers were truly crap! I think ITV had gone to the local cycling shop and grabbed the first few people they could get! Thankfully I watched most of the Velta on Eurosport! But I agree the standards of the A team are pretty good! Is Froome going to go for the triple? Is he going to try for the Giro? Is he going to win the World Pursuit title? Not one of those questions would I bet against! By the way, I thought the special double plaque was a very special touch by the organisers! |

Not even a decent climb or nice castle to look at. If the Tour de France is Penthouse then the Tour of Britain is Reader's Wives. I think Froome will just focus on getting his 'historic' 5th Tour next year unless the French decide to something even more ridiculous with the route to favour Bardet. The gap between the Giro and the Tour seems too long in the modern era for a GC rider to hold peak form long enough to win both. |

Has to be the spectacular crash of the year at the Tour of Lombardy. Despite falling 30ft into a ravine somehow Laurent De Plus walked away without any serious injury, so happy to post the video here. When I saw it live I feared for his life.

In fact 3 more racers crashed at the same spot! Jan Bakelants (7 broken ribs and 2 vertebrae), Simone Petilli (concussion, lacerations and a neck fracture?) and Daniel Martinez (no serious injuries). Dangerous curve... http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bake...e-off-sormano/ Edit: Bakelants' bike hanging in a tree: |
