I think this rather silly brain size study by Loughborough University (Researchers - whoever they might be) is simply someone latching on to the brain to body mass ratio and not making any sensible comparisons. Just because something has an academic tag attached to it, doesn't mean it's cast iron fact.
What has always surprised me, are the small number of people born with almost no brain inside their heads (I don't know the medical term for this condition) that seems to make little difference to attitude, intelligence or behaviour. Does the size of your brain really matter that much? You can also decide what you want about regional IQs. Yes the people with the highest IQs tend to live in North West Europe, Canada or China, while the people with the lowest IQs are shown in the poorest places like Sub-Sahara regions: (https://www.worlddata.info/iq-by-country.php) Nevertheless, we all came from Africa originally. Income, climate and education do seem to have a bearing on the issue, not race. |

Makes me laugh to read sometimes when families go to these so-called 'winter wonderlands' at Christmas only to discover it is more like a dismaland instead-don't they think about checking first, going online to see if anyone has liked the place or left a comment on social media-or better yet do a physical recce of the area first. I also see that the terrible production of Jack and the Beanstalk was so bad it only last three days and has had to pay out nearly £5,000 in compensation. The moral of the story is always check it first, never just leave it to chance. Years ago if you booked a holiday you were always only going on the brochure picture but you might get there to discover that it was more of a building site or worse not even built! The Internet is a marvellous repository but it can also show you a place before you part with your hard-earned. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I see that another so-called Beast from the East could be hitting this country soon, whether or not it will get as far south as last year remains to be seen but usually if it is mentioned in the paper or online it is usually wrong. If the Met Office issue a long-range warning then it is worth taking note. I don't think it will reach here, more milder, wet and windy conditions but if not, well it's not really Winter for me without some snow and kids should be able to experience snow at least once in their lifetimes.

We don't get much, almost never more than 40 cm except where it drifts. But it stays on the ground for 4-5 months and can't disappear till we get plus temperatures

On the minimal amount of brain topic, this brief article is quite interesting:

If I had a 150 pound Mastiff, I would think it would protect my house.
https://nypost.com/2019/01/01/woman-...ith-guard-dog/ This lady was surprised to find a drunken stranger sleeping with her "gentle giant." I would think about this every time I fed him or cleaned up his massive dumps. Guess he would have attacked if the guy was violent and not sleepy drunk. Hate to think that a 150 pound dog would just whimper and cry if a stranger was attacking his master. |
