Default The Shaving Thread

Since there was some interest in wet shaving in the "Worst inventions ?"-thread,
I started a separate thread.

Let's talk about how you shave,
what equipment you use, your experiences and problems.

Everything about shaving can be discussed here !

I'm using a Merkur 33c (short handle) for a while now with Derby blades.

A simple badger brush and shaving cream by "The Art of Shaving".

I've tried a lot of creams, but this combination works pretty well.
But there is still room for improvement.
Looking for a Gillette Adjustable and a best badger brush atm.

I'm in "winter plumage" at the moment (ie. a beard) so don't have the daily hassle of having to shave.

I used to use Bic disposables, but then the quality went all to cock. Some of them were just plain useless. Switched to Sensor 3's and they seemed to do the job. Still use them to tidy up the edges of my winter plumage.

My personal pet hate was a brand of disposable (the name escapes me) which featured what I can best describe as a "snot strip" of so-called lubricant!

I use a cut throat circa 1942 (gift from Grandad) a strop, soap & badger brush from shavingshack.com. I noticed that a lot of our American friends use boar hair brushes.

Yeah, I've noticed that also. Preferential "Omega" brushes from Italy.
They shall work pretty well.

Some say it works better with shaving soap than a badger brush.

I'm currently using a G*ll@tt@ Mach 3. It has 3 blades, obviously, and a lubricant strip to prevent nicks. I also use shave gel - it lathers up better than soap IMO. Overall it does a satisfactory job. I have always had to shave twice each shave, once in an upward direction and then once in a downward direction. If I fail to do this when I brush my hand across my face I will be able to feel stubble.

I am currently using Mach 3s (as the Sensor blades lost quality as soon as the Mach and Sensor 3 razors came on the market ...). Sometimes I just use regular hair clippers and keep very short whiskers.

Any suggestions for something better would be welcome:

I'll try anything that doesn't ...
1) Rip the whiskers out of my face ; or
2) Shave off the top layer of skin and leave me with cuts that need two or three days to heal.

My whiskers are very fine and soft. Electric razors just grab much of the hair and rips it out, while many manual-cream razors skin my face (or I need to shave twice and then I will lose skin).

Luckily, my employer doesn't mind some facial hair as long as it does not interfere with the emergency breathing masks--otherwise I wouldn't shave at all.

Ideas?

I use Mach 3 as well. I tried Gillette's Fusion (4 blades) but that felt as though it was ripping the hairs out rather than cutting them.

Pretty expensive though. A pack of 8 Mach 3 cartridges can cost up to $25 here in Oz. Luckily I only shave the beard line, otherwise I'd be buying them a lot more regularly

Mind you, they do last a long time for me. The lubricating strips don't last very long though.

Is it ok if I invite members male & female to discuss shaving other parts of the body? I shaved my pubes a while back and it was unpleasant to say the least.!

A shaving thread ???

Shaving ???

Thread ???

That`s better my head has cleared now

Actually there is a tidy neat thread for all such discussions on electrical product purchases , their prices , uses and members experiences etc it`s here

But please don`t let that prevent anyone else starting a thread up on hedge trimmers or lawn mowers , as i`m sure our massive system can handle it
