In an interview with Metro news circa 2009 David Coverdale admitted that the band ( originally called David Coverdales Whitesnake ) was indeed named after his penis . A tool for your lovin perhaps .

@lothian: The band name "Whitesnake" reminded us guys of a certain albino animal too... )
Seriously, my favorite songs by this band are the power ballad "Is This Love" and the hard-rocking / thrashy song "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again". I also like the title track of the album Forevermore. |

On their Wiki page I counted 41 different band-members, that's nearly as many as Spinal Tap including 8 different drummers, though not sure how many of them died in bizarre accidents.

I didn't mind them during the early part of their career but it all went horribly wrong when Coverdale decided to re-invent the band. Cue hair, pointy guitars, massively over-produced bland American crap rock & subsequent increase in sales worldwide. Can't knock the mans business sense but a once good blues rock band turned into something that did nothing for me at all.

Coverdale is an arse. Nobody from Redcar talks with a ridiculous cut glass accent like that! Compare him with a REALLY talented Teessider, Paul Rodgers. Lives in Vancouver, talks like he's never been more than 10 miles from Middlesbrough Town Hall. Proper bloke - and a far more gifted singer and writer.

@CountJimMoriarty: I respectfully disagree, but I will give you this: You know to brutally insult someone just as well as Tom the Marine [aka. "Batman"] Have you considered working for Dick's Last Resort, to give someone an unfair share of abuse?!

Great band! Lots of good tunes. Lots of very good Musician's in the band over the years for sure. The 1987 self titled record is a mastepiece and is one the first few cassette tapes I ever bought along with Def Leppard's Hysteria " Another Masterpiece! " and Cinderella's Long Cold Winter.
I must admit however, I haven't heard anything after Slip of The Tongue!

Paul Rodgers is the former Vocalist for the late 60s band, Free and the original Vocalist for Bad Company.
