Default Babelfish Warning

Babelfish used to be an extremely helpful add-on, offering one-click translation of selected text, with automatic language detection. It's become less useful since Google made changes to their translation service and I haven't used myself it in quite a while. The last couple of days I found that whenever I clicked Check For Updates in the Add-on Manager I would get a message asking me to put in the admin password for my router - worrying. I've now tracked the cause down to this add-on, which I've uninstalled. Anyone who still has it lying around might be experiencing the same problem.

None of the tools I'd used on YouTube while DownloadHelper wasn't working with it detect this video either. Can anyone identify anything about it that is unusual? I'm worried that there are going to be more like it.

I'd post on their support site, but I tried that with another issue and they just ignored me.
To my knowledge, DownloadHelper no longer works with Firefox and YouTube videos, for saving videos. I have had to go to YouTube Options, which is a Chrome add-on. Of course, you can't get the version of the add-on that saves YT videos via the Chrome store (all Google and this crap about not saving YT videos). You have to go to the developer's site to download and get instructions for installation of the good version of the add-on...try https://spoi.com/software/yto/.

I haven't tried the new version of DownloadHelper, but it seems to break easily, although YTO requires constant updating. YT seems to keep trying to break the add-ons with tiny code changes, then the add-on authors change a JavaScript formula to fix it, and the cycle continues.

I have downloadhelper for mozilla firefox and want to download this to my comp, however the helper balloon is greyed out. The video also appears to stream rather than download. Jdownloader also does not see the link to allow it to parse the url to get the download. Other videos from youtube download just fine with both programs, all except this one in particular. Any help, suggestions, information on this would be greatly appreciated.
The tool I use to grab videos from youtube and other places is RealPlayer, which has an excellent little function that provides a 'Download' button wherever it finds a video that's grabable. It won't get stuff that's DRM protected of course, so that rules out stuff on the BBC site or iPlayer, but it'll get almost anything else.

However, I tried grabbing the video on that youtube link with the intention of upping it to RS for you, but oddly the Download button didn't appear. The other videos from that Direct8 company that are on youtube are grabable, but not the one you want!

I suggest therefore that the issue is not with your downloadhelper, but that there's something odd about the way that particular video has been recorded, encoded or uploaded.

I'd just like to reiterate that DownloadHelper is absolutely fine on YouTube in its current version, I use it all the time. I always click play on the video before trying to download - and I have FlashBlock as well - but that doesn't seem to be strictly necessary, at least on YouTube: a drop-down menu from the spinning balls icon allows you to select whether to download as a flv, mp4, and in different resolutions.

All downloader extensions or programs face the same problem, of being involved in an arms race with YouTube, and so require constant updating. When DownloadHelper didn't work, I used UnPlug for Firefox (I wouldn't go to Chrome as I value my privacy, but that's another story), but that doesn't work with this video either.

Upon my previous post, I updated DownloadHelper and tested it. It does now work with YT, so I stand corrected. As we both stated, there's a race between YT and the authors (with miniscule JavaScript and URL changes, I've noticed), so I like to have multiple arrows in my quiver, so to speak. In fact, I only use Chrome for the YTO add-on...otherwise, Firefox. You do have to start the video in DH, not for YTO, and both seem to give all of the format and quality options.

I also agree that there is probably an issue with the encoding, something not standard about it, that's keeping it from being downloaded. That's why I have a DVD Recorder...an HDMI cable from the PC to the Recorder gives you a surprisingly decent option for obstinate videos.

Default Re: Download helpers.

On my computer, Firefox(15.1) creates a copy of the video in "Documents and Settings...<current user>...local settings...temp". It is named with a .tmp extension. When the video has been completely downloaded, I pause the playback then use Right Click...Send To...Unlocker and copy the .tmp file to another directory. I can then finish watching the video or exit the page. Firefox will then remove the .tmp file from the Temp directory. Before you rename the file use Right Click...Media Info to find out the proper extension to use in the file name.

If Firefox does not create the file in the Temp directory, then use this trick. Open a new tab and enter about:cache in the address bar. It will display a page giving details of FF's current use of memory and hard disk caches. Click 'List Cache Entries' under Disk Cache Device. Now do a page search for the file type .tmp or .mp3, etc. Click on the desired entry and it will take you to a details page about that entry. Here there is an item for 'File On Disk' this is where FF has stored the file.
