My Mums favourite line when we were kids was " because I said so " normally used in reply to a " why can't I.... " type question.

Now I'm older she visits and says clean this house up, lose weight and get a job.

But I know she loves me really.

Dad on the other hand just laughs because when she's nagging me he gets a break.

My Mum didn't belt me, she was far more fearsome than that. One look was enough (for the old man too), but sadly I never said I was sorry for my manifold sins. Love her whilst you've got her mate and make sure she knows it.

My mum died five years ago and my younger brother said to me, 'now we're orphans'...he was forty five and I was fifty seven.
Doesn't matter how annoying she can be, or how much she still treats you like you're six...cherish it, because once she's gone it leaves a sense of loss in your life that you never entirely get over.
