Tricky question. There'll never be full agreement in any single country about what should be censored, what shouldn't and what can be censored a little bit, as there are millions of people in each, the problem is even worse when we consider the internet.
Then there's the question of how much a thing should be censored. That'll generate even more problems due to the fact that everyone is different and will be affected by a thing more or less than anyone else and 'censorship' tries to apply a single 'standard' throughout a country, and therefore tries to act as if everyone is the same and will be affected in the same way to the same degree. The only way to even try and make that the situation is complete mind control by a police state. Then there's the internet. How would it be possible to control something that is 'made' by billions of people? More mind control? Complete freeze of the internet?

I don't believe in any form of censorship. I think it's complete and utter bullshit!

I believe in it when it would undermine a parents wishes. For example, I can tell my kid no, and not worry about some movie clerk admitting her.Same goes for TV stuff. If it keeps kids sheltered, but is still accessible to adults, than I'm cool with it.
What really confuses me is censorship in adult material; like Japanese porn |

Censorship poses a problem to me. Children shouldn't be able to watch adult programming that contains profanity or sexual content. Of course, for adults, I don't believe there should be any censorship whatsoever. People, especially the religious right, always complain about adult content. Well, you're an adult, asshole, if you don't want to watch it...turn it off!

What exactly do you mean? There are movies magazines produced that are beyond the pale. Can I mention Max Hardcore who gets women to dress like little girls.

I personally don't like censorship of any kind either.
My father made sure I had an extensive vocabulary when it came to expletives. At 5 years old, I could swear with the best of them. The deal was, if I ever cursed in front of any adult, he would take his belt & whip the white off my butt. But, I very rarely got picked on as a kid, because someone would call me a dummy or jerk & I'd come back with, "You're a c@#ks*%kin' m@#$%*f*&^er." That would shut the bullies up every time. It annoys me when I hear about banned movies, because it's not real. It's all make believe, so what's the problem? It seems that the people who complain about violence have been fortunate enough to never witness real violence or death. Banning documentaries just angers me, because I see it as restricting information. Sure, the images could be graphically violent. But, how are we supposed to connect to history in an emotional way without seeing the images. Frankly, without seeing them, we're just being told how to feel. It's not genuine. Still to this day, it's taboo in the US to show the real story about Concentration Camps in WW2. We get to see emaciated prisoners, but not what happens to them. It doesn't tell the whole story. I understand not showing that stuff in schools, but as an adult I resent the censorship. People will say, "You don't need to see the ovens & graves. What's wrong with you?" Well, maybe they don't need to see it, but if I'm going to invest my time in a documentary I want it to make me feel uncomfortable. Fortunately, very few things are banned in the US. It's mostly stuff relating to sex that gets banned. |

I don't like banning censoring anything at all, because it just drives the "product" underground. It is up to society to decide, not govs. I think drugs should be legal. Then it would be pure. But no political party has the balls to do it.
