I like The Blacklist, I've been watching it since the beginning. Of course, because of James Spader playing Raymond Reddington. Superb.

I'm watching ST Discovery every week. To answer your question, I'd say (just my point of view) this show is the portrait of a dark time before the Original Series started; that's why it's somewhat... different. I've been a Trek fan for 30 years, and I found myself liking Discovery because it was NOT more of the same Star Trek thingy.
I was going to explain further on this but the post was getting way too long, hehe.

Yes I agree with that, but I'm intrigued to see how it gets from where it is to Kirk and Spock's Star Trek...or whether the producers are fibbing and it actually turns out to be set some alternative J J Abrams like Star Trek universe.

The original series was set in a halcyon time but it did occasionally hint at a dark past.

Channel Zero--Season 2--No End House

This is a show in the American Horror Story vein---by that I mean it takes a whole season to tell the story. It's now in it's second season. This time the story is about a weird "Funhouse" that is ingrained in suburban folklore, appearing overnight all around the country. The legend is that it's magical. You go into six rooms, one at a time, and each room is more terrifying than the previous room. Nobody has ever made it into the sixth room and back out again, so the legends say. Teenagers think it's just a gimmick that someone invented. The house appears one evening in a normal neighborhood and the kids get together and go to make a visit. There they are with a bunch of other neighborhood kids, and you'd swear they were just in line at the latest thrill ride. But it's much worse that that....
Good story...as you watch it you'll realize not altogether original, but entertaining. Familiar character actors. Creepiness. So far...and it's not over, but I think I've figured out how it's gonna end...not too shabby. B-

Rotten Tomatoes gives it 100%, that's good enough for me to give it a look.
