Have you ever met another VEF member? - Page 3

Exchanged emails with a few, sold some mags to a few, and met one of the big guns in purchasing a small stack of mags.

I'm not usually the information exchange/meeting type, but I feel a curious sense of comfort when chatting to other folks here on VEF, more than I would on some "regular" board.

Although I've once received an email from restoration201. As far as I'm aware I've not met any vef members who live in the Brum/West Mids area. Nor have I met any of our fellow members from anywhere else.

I probably met VEF people in person without knowing that they are, on film fairs - I used to be a regular at the Camden film fair and also went several times to its previous incarnation at King's Cross; also went once to a film fair in Hanover in Germany.

I swapped stuff with a few people I know are VEF members, quite a few more that probably are VEF members without me knowing that they are, and at least one person who is now banned here.

I have two good friends who sometimes come onto VEF and both have recognised my style of writing.

There are also people on this forum who I would undoubtedly get on with very well in the real world, but I think I would be leaving myself wide open to a range of risks by being too open about my real identity.

Well, it does seem that a fair number of people have met/corresponded with fellow VEF members outside the forum.

As i expected a lot of people are understandably concerened re privacy. I'll admit to that myself, reluctant to give out real name. But I think a lot of it starts with communicating in the general discussion section as well as personal/visitor messages. You get a good sense of what the person is like, where there interests lie and become a bit more willing to open up yourself. Much like with anyone you meet.

This is a pretty unique place in that regard.

Unless you have a very unusual name, I can't see why you would be worried about revealing your name. I Anglicised my name years ago because anybody outside in web land doesn't understand my name in Irish.
